Thai Ho Chiak.

Dinner with my family on a Monday's holiday at Restoran Thai Ho Chiak, a Thai restaurant that opened two days ago.

Located next door to Restoran Greenview.

A sparkling new air conditioned restaurant with wooden pallets as decor for it's wall and ceiling and with posters of their food adorned on the walls, too !

Ordering of food made easy by pointing at what you want.

The captain who took our orders is quite "green" serving us big portions food for only the six of us.

The food that stands out are the Ba Bao Chicken which a soup and the seafood tom yam.

Parking is bearable.

Colorful posters of their food.

Ba Bao Chicken-Chef's specialty-Eight treasure chicken is actually a double boiled soup of half a chicken with herbs, dried scallop, fish maw, mushroom and topped with some shark fin- very nutritious indeed-Rm70/

Stir fried mixed vegetables with lean pork-a good mix-Rm18/

Prawn omelette- crisp and eggy but lacking in prawns-Rm9/

Sea food Tom Yam-with sea prawn, squid, fish, lots of finely slice lemongrass and oyster mushroom-full of flavors and kick with every slurp of the soup-Rm45/

Thai Thai fried trotters-a real big sized trotter (must be from an over sized pig)-the skin was crisp but the meat was too coarse-Rm48/

Complimentary assorted fruits.

Total bill:Rm244/
Location:2, Jalan 19/3,
Section 19, Petaling Jaya.

Restoran Happy Family@Setia Alam

Saturday dinner with family at Restoran Happy Family@Setia Alam, Klang.

Setia Alam is a well planned township with lots of public amenities.

There is a pasar malam with makeshift stalls selling all kinds of food, fruits, juice and anything that you can think of, hoarding the road around the town center.

We managed to park our cars near the Meru main road.

Restoran Happy Family is located behind the pasar malam and next to the Setia Alam Club house.

It is a typical Chinese restaurant with aquariums of live fishes and crustaceans at one corner.

As it was our first visit we went for their signature dishes which turned out to be OK.

Parking is OK.

Century eggs with pickled ginger-good appetizer-Rm4/

Herbal Chicken-tender and meaty-a bit on the salty side-Rm35/
Seafood Pumpkin-filled with pig's tendon, fish maw, sea cucumber, mushroom and scallop-Rm80/
Sweet and sour pork with onion, red and green capsicum-meaty and crisp-Rm10/
Golden Promfret- topped with spring onion and coriander leaves and dried fried shallots in a superior soy sauce-was swimming in the aquarium awhile ago-full of  freshness-sweet and smooth flesh-Rm48/
Stir fried assorted vegetables like sweet pea bean, baby French bean, carrot, Macadamia nuts and scallop-a good mixtures of healthy goodness and textures-Rm50/

Total bill:Rm253.

Wild Mushroom.

Some wild mushrooms are poisonous.

So leave it to the experts !

I think these are seasonal wild mushrooms which crops up after a bout of rain on a hot sunny day and harvested early next morning by the Orang Asli.

Known in Chinese as Kai Yok Ku (Chicken meat mushroom) sold for Rm5/kg.

Before cooking it-must remove the thin layer of skin.

Wash it-slice diagonally and sauteed in oil, ginger and garlic with a sprinkling of salt.

It has a mild flavor, sweet taste and chicken meat like textures.
