Loh Mai Kai (Homemade)

Lor mai kai (glutinous rice with chicken) is always found in any Dim Sum menu.

It's always prominently displayed at the front entrance of many coffee shops.

Usually kept warm in a glass covered cabinet together with other paos.

A quick bite for those who has no time to make breakfast at home.

Commercial Lor mai kai is steamed glutinous rice with marinated lean chicken
meat and mushroom made with an inverted tin bowl and served on a plate.

Home made ones are much tastier as the added ingredients are more varied with abalone,
Chinese sausage......etc and the XO oyster sauce used.

Glutinous rice like pulut susu is used as it's excellent for it's smooth and sticky texture.

Ali, Muthu and Ah Hock@Oasis,Ara Damansara.

When i first heard the name Ali, Muthu and Ah Hock -my thought were, are they a new comedy skit ?

No, Ali, Muthu and Ah Hock is a kopitiam, serving delicious local dishes and drinks.

The name sounds so Muhibbahish and so Malaysian.

Anyway, Oasis@Ara Damansara is a good location for food/work and stay.

The similarities and tastes in the food served here, as in Village Park@Uptown
is almost identical with the exception that  their Nasi Lemak is at a upmarket price of Rm9.50/plate.

We ordered their signature Nasi Lemak served with deep fried tumeric flavored chicken
drumstick (not as fragrant or piping hot but the taste is intact), deep fried anchovies(too dry), peanut, sambal and cucumber and another plate of Nasi Kunyit/Roti Jala that combined so well with the creamy and spicy Curry Chicken and potato.

 Parking is OK.

Tonkatsu by Ma Maison.

Tonkatsu originated in Japan in the 19th century.

Tonkatsu ( pork cutlet rice or chu pah fun is a dish which consists of a deep fried breaded pork cutlet, served as a single dish with plain rice or multi-coloured rice, miso soup and shredded cabbage.

As i am not so much of a pork eater, the temptation to try it, was pushed aside,
until a rave review by ILikeToEatLah .

I ordered a Jumbo Hire Katsu set and a Potato Salad to share with my wife.

The big chunk of tenderized pork fillet (with some layers of fats in between the meat) is coated with bread crumbs and then deep fried.
It tasted simple and clean with just pepper and salt as flavoring-crispy on the outer crust,
tender and moist on the inside-thumbs up !
Drenched the shredded cabbage with karashi (mustard) sauce for extra flavor.
Miso soup is refillable, too.

Michelle's order- a Prawns (generously sized sweet and succulent) and  Rosu (pork loin ) Katsu set and Mike's order-a Mameton set.

Overall it was a fulfilling and satisfying meal but a bit expensive.

Appetizer-Radish ball.

Potato Salad.
