HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE

My wife cooked this Hainanese free range chicken rice for dinner.
Boiled a pot of hot boiling water.
Lower the flame and cook the chicken for 20 minutes.
Then off the flame and leave the chicken in it, fully covered with a lid, for another 20 minutes.
Remove the chicken and immersed in a pot of cold water for 5-6 minutes.
Take it out and colander it, before chopping it up to serve.
If you eat it in the shop, the chicken are usually farmed ones whereby the meat are bland in taste and soft. The price difference between the two types of chicken is enormous too!

Smooth and muscular free range chicken- garnished with finely chopped spring onion, coriander leaves and deep fried garlic-smooth and tender-I always get to eat the drumstick.

Cantonese style sauce-bird's eye chillies, garlic, finely smashed ginger, sesame oil, lime juice and cooked oil-fiery and hot.

Ready to be served-rice was fragrant.

PETAI

The Petai tree is only found growing deep in the jungle. I was surprised to find the this plant growing by the road side in the suburbs of Section 17/11 and 17/4 junction, Petaling Jaya. It is also known as twisted cluster beans or stink beans. Some claimed that it can lower the sugar level in the blood.

Can grow to great heights in the jungle.

The flower pod.

The pod burst to become stalks of the Petai fruit.

Close up of the fruit.

It is very versatile, can be eaten raw, stir fry and (above)cooked with prawn, tamarind and chilies-can be pungent and slightly bitter.

MINI "MONK JUMP OVER THE WALL"

Restoran Lucky Sin's food promotion. i went there to try their superior soup, mini "monk jump over the wall" at an offer price of rm29.90 (n.p.-rm59.90).

Poster of the various soup promotion.

The expensive looking porcelain bowl with the superior soup.

A piece of scallop.

A piece of mushroom.

A piece of abalone.

Chicken meat.

The superior soup stock was double boiled with ham and herbs for four hours, the soup was clear and tasty and not too herb flavored -the abalone was not chewy, mushroom was smooth and moist, scallop was strandy and chicken was soft and tender. For rm29.90, I think it was worth paying.

RESTAURANT XIN WAH

It was raining on a Saturday, at lunch time, the four of us decided to try the food at Restaurant XIN WAH located at Queen's Park Retail Center, Jln Shelley, Kuala Lumpur. One of us have been there before and he raves about the good food. The food was average and was quite expensive. Parking is only rm1/ for the whole day. You can do some shopping after your lunch too. We ordered:

Claypot 3 layered pork ribs:the soup was full of herbs flavor and the meat juicy.

Lala with bird eye chillies and garlic: fresh and fiery hot.

Steamed ginger grass carp belly: the fish was not fresh and the ginger was too old.

Steamed free range chicken(1/4):meat was muscular and tender.

Stir fried beansprout: crunchy with the roots intact.

Total bill:rm89/
