Restoran Kee Huat@Teluk Intan.

Bak Kut Teh in Teluk Intan, Perak ???

Restoran Kee Huat is considered as one of the famous place for Bak Kut Teh and fresh seafood in Teluk Intan, located in a ramshackled wooden house along the Teluk Intan - Sabak Bernam road (opposite off Naza Bikes)

When we arrived there at around 10 am-business was brisk-we managed to get a table beside a portable boiling kettle stand.

As there were only the two of us, we ordered a clay pot of BKT with pork ribs/pig stomach and intestines, a steamed Garoupa fish's tail and a teapot of Pu'er to wash down the oil and fats.

To me, the BKT was not bad if compared to those in the Klang Valley, the soup was not so herbal and  a bit on the lighter side but the fish was best, fresh and sweet tasting.

Parking is ample.

Piping hot clay pot filled with meaty pork ribs, pig's intestine (a bit bitter), thickly sliced chewy pig' stomach, fresh lettuce and deep fried bean curd sheet-passable-Rm12.
Steamed Garoupa fish's tail garnished with deep fried fragrant shallots, coriander leaves and julienne young ginger-seated on good grade light soy sauce-fresh and fleshy-worth the money- Rm18.

Total bill:Rm34/

Curry Chicken Pao@Tapah Road.

Pao is a traditional delicacies-stuffed with fillings like pork, chicken, red bean paste, kaya (a mixture of coconut milk/ sugar/ egg)...etc.  and are usually steamed.

This coffee shop selling the various types of pao is located near the Tapah Road KTM Station in Kampung Changkat Dermawan, Perak - literally a slow and standstill town,.

It is a small corner lot coffee shop with no name-situated on the right side of the only two rows of old shop houses.

I think the pao are halal as the stuffing are only filled with chicken, kaya or red bean paste.

Sold at only Rm2.50 each - it is cheap and delicious-almost the size of a tai pao in KL or PJ.

Available from12:30 pm onwards.

Curry chicken pao-very fluffy and the dough does not get stuck in your teeth - very balanced taste, not oily and flavorful - Indian styled cubed tender curry chicken meat with a half hard boiled egg and onion-hot, spicy with numbing sensation on the tongue.Rm2.50/

Location: corner lot (right hand side) of a row of shops before the Tapah Road KTM Station.

Pork meatballs with Misua@Home.

There was a small plateful of leftover pork meatballs from last night dinner.

The deep fried salt/pepper marinated minced pork meatballs are cooked with potato wedges/sliced big onion in a light and dark soy sauce-then smoothed and thickened with a Tapioca flour/water mixture.

The pork meatballs overnight stay in the fridge make it much tastier and flavorful after being re-cooked.

For my morning breakfast, my wife added the pork meatballs to a one and half small bundle of al dente cooked Misua (home made wheatflour noodle (thick variety but salty type ! ) bought from a village house in Jinjang).

In Chinese (Hokkien) culture, Misua signifies long life and is a must during birthdays !

As for me, it was a comforting breakfast meal to start the day !

Baby Pork Ribs @ New Orleans Barbeque.

Genting Highlands Resort is just a 45 minutes drive from where I stay.

To many it may sounds crazy just to drive up there for this lunch time meal and then just to eat this 1/2 slab of BBQ baby pork ribs at New Orleans Barbeque @ Genting Highlands

The restaurant is adorned with many framed photographs of all the major Jazz/Blues musicians of New Orleans.

This main meal came with free flow coffee/tea/water, unlimited garden salads and soup of the day

The window seating view was great and cooling with a full view of the Theme Park.

Theme Park.

Garden Salad-my choice were green and red capsicum, fresh lettuce, julienne carrot and sliced tomatoes topped with a Thousand Island sauce.

Minestrone soup-filled with pasta, diced celery, onion, carrot, tomatoes.......etc -very thick, brothy and tomatoish .

1/2 slab of well marinated and grilled BBQ baby pork ribs served with potatoes wedges-a bit dry and woody towards the ribs edges otherwise it was worth the money-Rm40/

Roast Pork Rice Vermicelli @ Restoran Megah Good Luck.

Sunday morning breakfast at Restoran Megah Good Luck, a bustling coffee shop in Tamam Megah, Petaling Jaya.

This is the third time, the forgetful lady stall owner forgot about my order of roast pork rice vermicelli.

When queried she said 'I thought you couldn't wait and left' !!!!!!!

The roast pork belly was nice with a good balance of fats and lean meat with crispy, crackling skin.

Sharing of tables is common, here.

Parking is OK on weekends.

Ngap Thui Meen@Pun Chun Noodle House Ara Damansara.

My SIL Hannah who stays in Ara Damansara buzzed me about this new branch of the famous ngap thui meen (duck drumstick noodle) Pun Chun from Bidor, Perak.

Why a sudden opening of so many branches in the Klang Valley?
Heard it through the grapevine......about the Bidor business ?

The plus point is we do not have to drive to Bidor to enjoy their duck drumstick noodle but will miss their creamy and dense yam pastry and the deep fried steamed fish balls.

Last weekend, I was  there with my family for lunch.

Nicely located at a deep corner lot shop house-you will miss it if you do not look out for it.

Typical coffee shop styled setting with an open kitchen  (full of steaming hot stainless steel steamers) at the far end of the shop.

Our orders of  three bowls of duck drumstick noodle, a bowl of sweet and sour pork trotter noodle and two types of wanton plus drinks were quickly taken and was served within 15 minutes.

Parking is ample on weekends.

Duck drumstick noodle-full of light aromatic herbal flavor-drumstick was a tad wee small-noodle was springy-filled with Choy Sam, yok chut, tong kwai, wolf berries and dried longans-Rm7.30.
Wanton in soup-seven pieces of soft smooth shrimp/pork filled wanton-good-Rm5.90

Deep fried crispy and oily shrimp/pork wanton served with two types of dip i.e.chillies sauce and garlic/ginger sauce-with sliced cucumber on it's side-Rm8.40.

Village Roast Duck@BVSC.

Guest Post by Michelle.

Lunch with my mum and grandma at Village Roast Duck@ Bangsar Village Shopping Centre.

We wanted to eat Thai food but the restaurant was under renovations.

We ordered half a roast duck (Rm34.00) -which was meaty with a thin layer of fats under it's crispy skin and was served de-bone - juicy brown sauce, delicious and comparably good.

With a plate of dry noodle with two stalks of blanched Hong Kong Choy Sam (Rm6.80) and another plate of Singapore fried thick rice vermicelli (not oily at all with lots of healthy greens) (Rm14.80) to accompany the roast duck.

Good Friends @ Genting.

An overnight stay to escape the city's heat and soaring temperature.

Woke up early for breakfast at Good Friends @ Genting Highlands.

A restaurant with a good selections of Dim sum and Chinese cuisine.

Conveniently located one escalator down from the main casino.

The cool atmosphere was a plus point but the noisy diners was a big no-no !

Xiao Long Bao-a bit thick skinned but filled with hot, juicy meat that oozed out with the first bite-eat it with black vinegar and thinly sliced ginger..
Chinese Dumpling-pan fried at the bottom and filled with minced pork/spring onion-very nice texture.
Vegetarian Yee mee- topped with a Tapioca starch gravy-a good mixture of vegetable like Chinese long cabbage, straw mushroom, carrot, sweet pea and black fungus.
Chicken rice- a piece of roast chicken drumstick with round cabbage/carrot om it's side- sweet brown sauce as a dip.
