HENG KEE BAK KUT TEH

The most famous and oldest Bak Kut Teh shop in the whole of Petaling Jaya. It is situated by the cross road junction of Jalan 1/19, Old Town, Petaling Jaya. Formerly they were sited opposite this present location. Then it was only a small shack -(for cooking) a open air eatery-with trampoline tent as roof, when it rains. You would not even give it a second glance. The good and tasty bak kut teh enticed the people's craving for it. We have been their regular for many years, from their parent's time. Their version of Bak Kut Teh is Teo Chew style-very light soy sauce soup with full of herbal flavor especially dong quai (Angelica Sinensis). The accompaniments are braised mushroom, tau pok, Chinese crullers and blanched oyster sauced vegetables and most important a pot of hot Chinese tea to wash away the fats!

Was there at 6 p.m. on a Saturday, almost packed with diners.

A pot of hot Chinese tea.

A medium bowl of pork ribs-top cuts-meaty and juicy-dong quai flavored soup-appetizing

Braised mushroom-very well braised, smooth and moist-a bit too big in size.

Extra bowl of soup for dipping Chinese crullers- no problem.

Tau pok-was soft and fully absorbed the tasty soup.

A small bowl of pig stomach and intestine-was well cleaned and tender with every bite.

A bowl of Chinese crullers-dipped in the soup to soften it, for added flavor.

A plate of lettuce to off set all the meat-good in nutrients and fiber too.

STEWED DUCK

Stewed duck is normally cooked using sugar, light and dark soya sauce, lengkuas (galangkal) and five spices powder. This Teo Chew stewed duck stall is known as Fatty Duck and is located at Jln SS2/10 Petaling Jaya. It is on the same row but on opposite ends of Kayu Nasi Kandar. Actually i do not like to eat duck because it is high in cholesterol. But the majority in the family wins, so i tagged along. We ordered one whole duck, five hard boiled eggs, three pieces of bean curd and salted chinese mustard.
