Restoran Lim Fried Chicken @SS2.

The opening of another branch of Lim Fried Chicken
in SS2 Petaling Jaya has made it more convenient for us.

They proved that a local brand can be up there and be better
that some of the big boys.

Not much choices but enough to satisfy everyone taste buds,
for a hearty meal.

I ordered a fried chicken drumstick that was hot, crisp and juicy,
served with either fried long beans or Chinese round cabbage and a splash
of savory curry gravy,  plus a dollop of sweet sambal.

Reasonably priced and quick service.

Restoran BBQ Soon Hing Sdn Bhd.

Restoran BBQ Soon Hing Sdn Bhd is the new kid on the block
in the quieter side of SS2, Petaling Jaya even though they face
the main road.

They are a branch of their namesake in Puchong, famous for BBQ
and roast meat and poultry with some dim sum thrown in.

Lunch time was full of people-sharing tables is common.

Brisk business, fast service, good food and truly affordable.

The missus and I ordered a plate of Roast duck noodle (Rm7.40)
served with blanched choy sam and  deep fried pork lard -how I
wish the noodle were  more springy and sauce not too watery.

A bowl of Ipoh Sar Hor Fun (Rm6.40) with no beansprout but got chives,
prawn, a chopped  poached chicken drumstick-the soup was salty.

And a plate pan fried prawn rolls (Rm5.80)which turned out to contain
some carrot and minced pork, too.

Overall a fulfilling meal.

Fish Ball, Fish Cake and Fish Wanton in a clear broth.

In Petaling Jaya city where I lived-breakfast food is available in many coffee shops, some as early as 6.30 am.

I am always spoil for choices.

Stalls selling all types of food, famous from different states of the country - are found here.

With a potpourri of people to give them business- the good ones will have no problem maintaining their standard while the average will have to up their ante.

This fish ball noodle stall is one of the good one around located at Restoran OK in SS2 .

After a plate of Char Kway Teow @Rm5/-I still have some space in my stomach.

My wife and I share a bowl of fish balls, fish cake, fish wanton (fay tip) in a clear broth with chopped spring onion and coriander leaves @Rm10.

The broth was a tad too salty while the fish balls were springy, fish wanton were smooth and tender-sliced fish cake were quite rough in textures.

Chow Yhang Restaurant.

Another family dine-out at Chow Yhang Restaurant located in SS2, Petaling Jaya.

Having dinner together brings the family closer and it's also the time to keep up with the latest gossips and happenings.

This part of SS2 in Petaling Jaya consists of two rows of double storey shop houses, back to back and are mostly occupied with small restaurants and coffee shops.

Chow Yhang Restaurant is a small, compact, family oriented air conditioned Chinese restaurant that  does not have service charges.

After your meal, if you fancy some sweet pastry there is a famous Yau Char Kwai (Chinese cruller) and Hum Chi Pan (salty dough bun) stall by the road side that only open during the night.

Parking is OK .

Yam Basket-seated on deep fried white rice vermicelli and filled with Kai Ting (cubed chicken meat cooked with baby corn, straw/button mushroom, carrot, green capsicum and cashew nuts-the deep fried yam was powdery and melt in the mouth..

Herbal Chicken came in a piping hot casserole with spring onion garnishing-well herbal flavored and thickly gravied-a bit oily and salty.

Assam Garouper fish-garnished with fresh refreshing green mint leaves-filled with slices of lady finger and okra-fish was fresh and meaty-the spicy and sourish broth was quite oily.

Braised Pork ribs with special sauce-well braised and the dark soy sauce colored meat easily detached from it's bones-gravy goes well with rice.

Oyster Omelette-fried evenly with coriander leaves and spring onion until golden brown -filled with lots of juicy oysters-passable.

Green and leafy Sweet Potato shoots stir fried with garlic to end the meal.

Yuan Garden Dim Sum House.

Yuan Garden Dim Sum House is another new kid on the block, replacing part of Sri Siam Restaurant.

Located in a corner lot with good road frontage along the busy SS2 area-airy, clean and spacious with  fuss-free furnishing.

We were there on an early Saturday morning "yum char" with the day's newspaper in hand.
Browsing through the latest murder news with a pot of hot Pu'er tea and dainty cups filled with it to wash of the oil and fats !

A guy with a trolley full of warm deep fried pastry came offering his ware while steamed dim sum have to be order on a order form.

Prices are quite reasonable-ranging from Rm1.80-Rm4.50.

Parking is OK.

Tai Pao (big bun)-fluffy skin and filled with chicken, pork, egg, yam bean,Shiitake mushroom and traces of ginger juice-very authentic-comparable to big restaurant-worth the buck !
Prawn roll-wrapped with bean curd sheet and deep fried-came straight off the fryer-oily but sweet and fresh-bean curd sheet a bit salty.
Char siew pao (BBQ pork bun)-soft and fluffy-tasty and meaty!
Siew Mai-steamed prawn/minced pork wrapped in yellow wanton wrapper-small in size but fresh.

Green chillies stuffed with fish paste-generously sized but tasted a bit off.

Chicken rolled with bean curd sheet-the thigh meat was tender and meaty-again the bean curd sheet was salty-one of my favorite.

Sek Ho Lui @ SS2.

 Guest post by Michelle.

We are a group of leng luis' (pretty girls) working around the commercial area in SS2, Petaling Jaya.
As our lunchtime is only an hour long, we usually go for fast, simple but good and delicious food.

SS2 is a food heaven no matter whether it is during the day or night.

When the durian are in season you can eat all you want at RM9-10/person.from the numerous stalls behind the Police station.

Sek Ho Lui located along Jalan SS2/60, (opposite of an open air food stalls) opened recently. It is a corner shoplot with a good frontage but many  restaurants come and go-bad feng shui?.

The restaurant's signboard are in Chinese characters-a let down for English educated diners.

Food is average.

Parking is bearable.

HOI PENG SEAFOOD RESTAURANT (BRANCH)

After calling it a day at the successful ASD Launch Version 2.0 Sales at 3 Two Square, we went for dinner at Hoi Peng Seafood Restaurant (Branch) in SS2, Petaling Jaya which brought back good memories.

Twenty eight years ago, when my wife was pregnant with our first child, her food cravings were crabs. Back then the nearest and the best place to eat crabs was Hoi Peng (Main) in Old Klang Road and we patronized it at least once a week!

Now my daughter Mindy takes after her !! craving for crabs done in any style.

Tonight, we ordered some of their signature dishes.

Good appetizers-firm Century eggs with young pickled Ginger-taste wonderful, can't just stop eating at one-Rm9/.

The Star of the night-2 big size Indonesia crabs (2 1/2 kg) done in their famous sweet, sour and spicy style (Fatty Crabs' too numbing)-the fresh and meaty crabs were cut up into bite pieces but the meat was a bit coarse in texture-the gooey gravy was lapped up clean with toasted bread-Rm110/.

NEW PARIS RESTAURANT SDN BHD

Saturday lunch with my buddies, we went to New Paris Restaurant in SS2, Petaling Jaya as we wanted to have a quick lunch. "QUICK" it was ! from the time we did the ordering to finish eating-only 30 minutes. The restaurant ground floor area is open dining while upstairs is air conditioned. Their daily turnover of diners is fast that's why, a need for Red colored plastics sheet cover for each table. When you have finished your meal, they just wrapped up everything with it and send it to the washing section-and the table is set-Great ideas. We did not order their signature dishes like Sambal Petai Prawn, Steamed Tilapia Fish or Pineapple Pork Ribs as TaTa was in a "carnivorous" mood, and looked what he ordered.

Braised Chicken in Homemade Glutinous Rice Wine with finely shredded Ginger- the tender Chicken meat fully absorbed the sweet and aromatic wine- rm29/

Pork Belly with Salted Fish in a pot-it was bland could be the inferior Salted fish used and was mixed with pieces of lean pork-rm10/

Double boiled Watercress Soup-was tasty and the only green to go with our meal-rm6/.

Steamed Grouper fish-was fresh and fleshy-bathed in good grade Soy sauce and garnished with Ginger, Coriander leaves and Spring Onion.-rm32/.

Their signature sauce-Chillies, Shallots with Lime juice-really prep up our appetite.

DRAGON ONE

As most of the coffee shops were closed on the eve of the Chinese New Year festival, we opted to have our tea time at Dragon One, located at the same row with Sri Murni and next to a Maxis Center. Dragon One is a small and quaint air conditioned restaurant with the front sectioned up for smoking diners. The service was good and the food served was fresh and on par with big names restaurant. The toilet's walls were decked up with black and white square tiles-very creative! while the dining area, sidewall were fixed with ceiling high mirrors, giving the restaurant, an illusion of spaciousness. Parking during the weekend was O.K.

Stir fried Bean sheet with shrimps, beansprouts, eggs and sliced carrots-the sheets was soft and springy in texture-shrimps was fresh and succulent-similar to fried Kuay Teow but better in many ways-rm7.50/
