Padi field eel and wildfrog @ Restoran Shi Zhi Wei.

For me, Restoran Shi Zhi Wei in Tapah,is the one of the best
place to savor padi field eel, wild frog and good "wok hei" food.

It's a small, clean, no-fuss place with about 15 tables but service is
fast (about 15 minutes)

The live wild frogs, padi field eels or farmed fishes are only slaughtered
upon ordering of food.

So you get to eat the freshest and best, straight from the wok.

Whenever we are here, our must order food are:

Steamed wild frog with blended ginger and spring onion.

Kiong choong tinkai -stir fried wild frog with spring onion, onion and ginger.
Kong po padi field eels - de-bone and filleted and stir fried with
dried red chillies, onion and spring onion.
Their in-house made assorted Yong tau foo.
Deep fried fu pei (beancurd sheet) filled with full of springy fish paste.
Stir fried sweet potato leaves with garlic.

Pretty affordable food.

Ample parking spaces around the restaurant.

Makanan Laut Loong Sing@ Bukit Tinggi.

Our annual "pilgrimage" of a dinner and overnight stay at the rainy, cool and foggy Genting Highlands Resort, Pahang was rejuvenating !

But then every good things must come to an end.

Came early Sunday afternoon, it was time to leave those money sucking Slot machines, Baccarat, Roulette, Scibo games all behind.

We headed downhill eastward to Makanan Laut Loong Sing in Bukit Tinggi village for our late lunch.

We were lucky because Mindy's favorite wild frogs were available.

Parking is ample.

Steamed Pak Soo Kung (Cat Whisker fish)-750 gm-garnished wit spring onion, coriander leaves, julienned young ginger and drizzled with garlic oil and light soy sauce-very fresh and fleshy with no traces of mud smell-Rm22.50/

Steamed Village Chicken with lots of blended Bentong's old ginger-odd and bits pieces of  muscled chicken meat-quite salty-Rm15/

Steamed River Prawns with egg white-1.8 kg-super fresh, too big in size and the meat were fleshy but coarse (a bit like lobster's meat texture) with heads filled with red roe-Rm126/

Steamed wild frogs with kei chee (wolfberries) and light soy sauce-800gm-sweet, smooth white glistening flesh that easily detached from it's bones-delicious Rm56/

Stir fried fresh mushroom with sweet pea bean, Enoki mushroom, house made fishpaste and deep fried Tofu-a very refreshing dish-RM18/

Total bill: Rm245.

Restoran Hao Yi Lou

The CNY festival continued with a three tables dinner at Restoran Hao Yi Lou, Tapah, Perak.

My brother in law, Kam was the paying host for this dinner gathering among our relatives.

Restoran Hao Yi Lao is located just 2 km left from the Tapah toll plaza exit and is one of the best and newest restaurant in Tapah.

It is owned and run by a young, friendly and formidable couple- Chef Leong and his wife Sim.

As it was the first day of the CNY, the restaurant was packed to the rim
and business was brisk.

Parking is a breeze.

Me, talking to Chef Leong (hands on hip ) about tonight's dinner dishes.

Waiting at our table.

The hand written menu in Chinese.

Started with the usual Loh Sang-a Salmon Yee Sang-wish for a better business year.

Sang Cheong-stir fried with ginger/spring onion/soy sauce combination-very crunchy and good exercise for the jaws.

Steamed wild frogs with chopped ginger/spring onion/Chinese wine/ sesame oil was everyone's favorite-the flesh was smooth and sweet tasting-plenty of it because of the dry weather.

Clams with Curry powder-spicy, fresh and meaty.

Koong Poh Padi field's Eel-stir fried with onion/dried red chillies/spring onion and a dash of Chinese wine-the coarsely sliced eel meat was springy and meaty.

Tung Poh pork belly- well marinated and braised until the meat absorbed all the spices flavors-garnished with cilantro-the gravy was perfect with rice.

Steamed river prawns with egg whites and Chinese wine-garnished with finely sliced ginger and cilantro-fresh, juicy and succulent-the star of the night!

Buttered Tilapia-the meat was filleted and cut into bite sizes before it was wok buttered fried with egg and curry leaves-very crispy-a good snack with beer.

Ended the meal with a quick stir fried Kangkong (Water Convolvulus)) with Sambal chillies -a local favorite.
