Kafe Lin's@Melaka.

Six months ago, we had only cendol@ Kafe Lin's with a Melaka friend, Ruby, who swears
it was one of the best, around.

That time we did not get to try their authentic Peranakan mixed dishes ala mixed rice dishes style
because we were full from a great meal of mee rebus near Ujong Pasir.

This weekend, we arrived famished there at about 1:45pm after a hot and sweaty tour of Jonker Street and it's surrounding attractions.

All in we picked about eight dishes rich and spicy, all done Peranakan style.

The food is delicious and authentically cooked the way my mum used to cook for me.

 Parking is ample.

Fried chicken marinated with tumeric -crispy skin and tender and meaty.

Petai with onion and anchovies in hot and spicy sambal chillies paste.

Sea prawns/Squid sambal belacan chillies.

Assam Senangin chunks with ladyfngers and brinjal.

Stir fried sliced bitter  gourd with eggs.

Pongteh Chicken-just odd parts left, nevertheless the gravy goes well with rice.

Stir fried Spinach topped with deep fried shallots.

Fried eggs.

Cendol with kidney beans, gula Melaka, coconut milk......just nice and fragrant.

A great meal.

Cendol@Melaka.

After having Hassan Mee Rebus, we drove to town and then towards the reclaimed coastal highway to Cafe Li's for cendol.

Cafe Li's is located at 45, Taman Limbongan Indah, along the coastal highway at the junction of Tengkera and Tanjung Bidara.

A brand new row of double storey shophouses opposite of Hotel Bamboo Garden.

Bunting with a former Bukit Rambai Cendol sign adorned the shop front.

They also served ala carte Peranakan dishes.

Parking is OK.

Cendol-green Pandan flavored noodle, kidney beans, gula melaka, fresh coocnut milk topped with shaved ice-excellent for the hot weather-Rm2.50/

Ice Kacang & Cendol.

After visiting my sister's house in Desa Jaya, Kepong on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon.

We took the back road back to Petaling Jaya, passing by an industrial area and
then stopped by for drinks at a stall in Restoran Dim Sum VG, located at Wang Seng
Food Court,Taman Industrian, Bukit Kepong, Kepong.

The ice kacang and cendol is one of the best that I've ever tasted and it's cheap, too!

The stall owner who was very obliging to have his photo taken.

Cendol-filled with red bean, green Pandan flavored rice flour noodle, coconut milk, palm sugar and finely shaved ice-sweet sensations-Rm2.30/

Restoran Famosa Chicken Rice Ball.

On our way down south, we stopped over at Melaka for our lunch.

We took a walk and window shop antique shops along Jonker Street with the hot sun "biting" into our skin.

We choose Restoran Famosa Chicken Rice Ball as the famous one opposite was bursting with people queuing up along the walkway.

Anyway, Hong Kong's celebrity Choy Lam endorsed this restaurant with his figured placard prominently placed at it's entrance.

Brightly colored entrance.

Open kitchen on one side of the restaurant.

Poached Hainanese free range Chicken -served with sliced cucumber, a sprinkling of sweet light Soy sauce/sesame oil and garnished with cilantro-looks good but the tender meat tasted bland-RM18/.

Rice balls-nicely flavored and machine moulded-hygienic but was a bit sticky and salty-Rm3/.

Blanched Mung beansprout-garnished with lots of ground pepper/sweet soy sauce/chopped spring onion/deep fried shallots-overcooked, rendering it to be not so crunchy-Rm9/.

Fish balls soup-this was the saving grace dish-tasty soup and generously sized springy fish balls-Rm6/.

Cendol-finely shaved ice, kidney bean, green Pandan flavored noodle, coconut milk and thick brown palm sugar far better than Tan Kim Hock' version..Rm4.50/

Location:28-30, Jalan Hang Kasturi,
off Jonker Street,
Melaka.

ROJAK AND CENDOL-TMN BAHAGIA.

This is my mother's favorite place for Cendol but for Indian Rojak she prefers Hasan's stall in front of the SEA Park market.

Here, she can sit down and enjoy her meal under the canopy of shady trees with pigeons for

company and a great view of the Taman Bahagia LRT's trains plying up and down.

Cendol- Pandan flavored green bean flour noodle, kidney bean, light coconut milk and coarsely shaved ice which gives a crunchy bite-a great cool drink on a hot afternoon-Rm1.30/

Indian rojak made upon order is basically filled with crispy paper-thin prawn fritters, deep fried tofu, sliced grated coconut rolls, blanched beansprout, chopped cucumber, yam bean and served with a topping of spicy fragrant peanut sauce-a bit spicy on first bite, otherwise it was OK-Rm3.50/

A lot of friendly pigeons for company.

Location: A white mobile van, opposite the Taman Bahagia LRT station, Petaling Jaya.

NYONYA RESTAURANT

Nyonya Restoran opened in 1974, was owned by our family friend, Auntie Rose and because of family commitments she sold off the thriving authentic Nyonya food business.

They even has a new tag line "Yesterday's taste, Today"

The decor is now more modern with comfortable cheap Beige colored leather chairs, wall mounted and framed prints of major landmarks of Malacca city and a floor to ceiling glass panel front offering view of a bustling traffic choked SS2 street.

Besides Nyonya dishes they also served Nyonya sweet delicacies like Yam cakes, Onde Onde, Kueh Koci,Kueh Pisang, Angkoo Kueh, Kueh Talam.....etc.
