Yuan Garden Dim Sum House.

Yuan Garden Dim Sum House is another new kid on the block, replacing part of Sri Siam Restaurant.

Located in a corner lot with good road frontage along the busy SS2 area-airy, clean and spacious with  fuss-free furnishing.

We were there on an early Saturday morning "yum char" with the day's newspaper in hand.
Browsing through the latest murder news with a pot of hot Pu'er tea and dainty cups filled with it to wash of the oil and fats !

A guy with a trolley full of warm deep fried pastry came offering his ware while steamed dim sum have to be order on a order form.

Prices are quite reasonable-ranging from Rm1.80-Rm4.50.

Parking is OK.

Tai Pao (big bun)-fluffy skin and filled with chicken, pork, egg, yam bean,Shiitake mushroom and traces of ginger juice-very authentic-comparable to big restaurant-worth the buck !
Prawn roll-wrapped with bean curd sheet and deep fried-came straight off the fryer-oily but sweet and fresh-bean curd sheet a bit salty.
Char siew pao (BBQ pork bun)-soft and fluffy-tasty and meaty!
Siew Mai-steamed prawn/minced pork wrapped in yellow wanton wrapper-small in size but fresh.

Green chillies stuffed with fish paste-generously sized but tasted a bit off.

Chicken rolled with bean curd sheet-the thigh meat was tender and meaty-again the bean curd sheet was salty-one of my favorite.

Location: 58 & 58-1, Jaln SS2/24,
Petaling Jaya,
Selangor.

MY FAVORITE TYPES OF DIM SUM.

To me, Dim sum should be eaten and enjoyed leisurely early in the morning whether in a restaurant or alfresco by the roadside with a group of friends, morning papers and a hot pot of good grade Pu'er tea.

I feel eating Dim sum at night is a bit awkward!

These are the various types of Dim sum which I like to eat and hope you like it, too!

Steamed Xiu mai-fishpaste, minced meat with prawn filling wrapped in wanton wrappers-all time favorite.

Steamed Mushroom stuffed with minced chicken meat and fishpaste.

Char siew soh-pastry filled with BBQ pork.

Deep fried prawn roll with minced chicken meat and coarsely chopped water chestnut which gives it a crunchy flavor.

Steamed fishpaste stuffed fresh green chillies-my favorite.

Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun (rice flour noodle) made upon order steamed with prawn/char siew fillings and served with blanched Bok Choy and good grade sweet soy sauce with sambal chillies on the side.

Deep fried succulent prawn rolls.

Steamed tender and muscled chicken thigh meat rolled with bean curd sheet with Soy sauce.

Har gow-prawn filling-fresh and crunchy.

Steamed springy fish balls.

Fried Radish cake with lots of beansprouts, chinese chive, finely chopped chai poh (preserved radish stem)-can be very oily.

Steamed Lor mai kai (glutinous rice)-soft and sticky and topped with a piece of chicken, mushroom, Chinese sausage, abalone and sweet tasty gravy.

White smooth gooey porridge garnished with chopped spring onion, ginger and a sprinkling of pepper.

DIM SUM-RESTAURANT TUCK CHEONG

Restaurant Tuck Cheong is located off Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur. just behind the Maybank. I was there to meet a friend for "Yum Cha". They specialized in traditional and hand made Dim Sum and pao, very authentic. They have many varieties of Dim Sum and open as early as 5.30 a.m. When we reached there at 7.15 a.m. it was already packed with people. Almost everything is self service, no choice of selecting tea leaves (only one type), it's all hot and ready in mini kettles, placed on a table. Just pick one with cups and go to your table. Most tables are shared with other customers. Next go the hot steamer at the shop front tell the guy what you want and he picks and places it on a plate for you. Just shout and call him when you want to pay-very simple and trusting style.

Packed with people of all ages.

The main guy manning and dispensing the Dim Sum.

Prawn rolls with fish paste-succulent and springy.

Braised mushroom with fish paste and ginger juice-smooth and moist.

Steamed chicken rice-well marinated, tender and full of Chinese wine flavor-only available on Thursday and Saturday-my favorite.

The well abused mini kettle-"take it or leave it"-no other choices!

Total bill:rm13/ + 2 pao
Location: Jalan Kancil off Jalan Pudu.
Behind the old Wai Sek Kai.

KEDAI MAKANAN LAUT YONG TAT (2)

We have the whole Sunday to ourselves. Took a slow half hour drive via the Kesas Highway to Telok Gong, Klang for lunch. The last we went there was four months ago, then, the four of us had lovely sea food like crab, prawn and mantis prawn...etc. Today the two of us ordered fish and prawn roll which just as tasty without the guilt of cholesterol laden food. This restaurant is located away from all the commercialized seafood restaurant which make it quite exclusive. I noticed that most of their customers are local from the dialects that they speak. Parking is ample and it is air conditioned and clean.Toddy (juice tapped from the coconut flower stem) is available too.

Steamed "loong tan"-garouper fish-was white and fresh - the skin was thick and tendon-like with every bite-rm30/

Stir fry abalone mushroom-was smooth, moist and the gravy was not oily at all-rm10/

Their signature dish-fry rice vermicelli with tiny la la-lots of lard too, to made it flavorful-rm6/

Prawn roll-came piping hot from the wok-full of minced prawn and chicken-heavenly when dip with the Kampong Koh garlic chilli sauce-rm8/

Fresh young coconut-rm3.50/

DIM SUM

Dim sum literally means "touch the heart". It is also associated with early morning "yam cha" It is becoming more of a Chinese culinary culture in Malaysia with the mushrooming and opening of many dim sum shops. They usually open from early morning to noon. Many people enjoy their dim sum with a hot pot of their favorite tea, which helps in the digestion and washes away the fats and saltiness in some of the dishes. Here i am enjoying my yam cha with friends, at Restaurant Jin Xuan Hong Kong located at Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya.

per basket rm3.50/rm5/
