Lagoon Seafood Restaurant @ Bagan Hailam

Bagan Hailam located near the North Port in Port Klang, is a small fishing village with many seafood restaurants built on stilts by the river banks.

Lagoon Seafood Restaurant is one of them-all in the family owned and run - with a super casual set-up-plank flooring, red cloth tables and plastic chairs-with even their daily laundry dried out in the sun, by the side of the restaurant.

Located at the estuary of the Klang river with a good front view of the Royal Selangor Yacht Club on it's left and the new Pulau Ketam jetty on it's left .

Mud skippers are in abundant on the muddy river bank floor bed at the under side of the restaurant.

The casual lady owner recommended us a few of their signature dishes.

Parking is OK but located about a few meters away from the restaurant.

Hailam Noodle-big fat egg noodle cooked in a watery broth with rough and coarsely chopped onion, carrot, cucumber and pineapple with bits of shrimps, squid and sliced fish cake-a squeeze of calamansi juice for more zest-alkaline aftertaste in the noodle-Rm7.50/
Deep fried Mantis prawn meat with butter-was crispy and nicely browned but way too salty-was rejected and returned-Rm15/
Steamed Red Snapper-fresh but overcooked rendering it's flesh to be coarse-soy sauce was too salty-Rm25/
Stir fried Bok Choy-fresh and leafy-Rm6/
Steamed Mud Crab-in egg white and strips of young ginger-meaty, fresh and fine texture-Rm 50.40/

 Total bill: Rm90/

Restoran Fatty Crab Sdn Bhd.

Restoran Fatty Crab Sdn Bhd was voted KL's best seafood restaurant by Time Out magazine in 2009.

If I have visitors from overseas, this is the first place on my food itinerary to treat them to a delicious hot, spicy and numbing crab dinner and with toasted white bread to soak up all the tasty gravy !

Be there early on weekends as there is no reservations-only first come first serve basis.

Just bring along your appetite and cash.

Parking is OK.

An appetizer of sliced Century eggs with pickled young ginger to tease your tastebuds -Rm4/
Nicely charcoal grilled meaty chicken Satay on skewers served on the side with slice fresh cucumber and big onion-Rm20/
Deep fried fresh and tender chicken wings with crispy skin-can be very salty sometimes-Rn22/
Steamed Red Snapper-TeoChew style-very fresh with tomato, salted vegetable in a sweet and sourish broth-beautifully garnished with coriander leaves, red chillies and spring onion-Rm40/
Yellowish, eggy and fluffy fried rice with chopped long beans and shrimps-excellent and very consistent-Rm15/
Steamed mud crab-fresh, sweet and meaty-Rm48/
Sweet and sour mud crab-TeoChew style with lots of finely chopped red/green Bird's eye chillies-hot and numbing to the tongue (the greatest "kick")-a dozen of toasted white bread to soak up all of those killer gravy-Rm48/

Ying Jia Dim Sum & Seafood Restaurant.

Eating together with our children are much more fun-have more time to chat about the latest happenings-more food options as there are bound to be like and dislike !

But for today dinner at Ying Jia Dim Sum & Seafood Restaurant, there is only the three of us as all of them were busy with their work schedule.

Ying Jia located on a top end lot of a sloppy Food court in Happy Garden off Old Klang Road served affordable Dim Sum in the morning and "Tai Chow" in the evening.

Parking is OK.

Steamed Red Snapper about 400 gm-with soy sauce/peanut oil and garnished with julienned young ginger and coriander leaves-fish was fresh but the sauce was a bit salty.

Chee Kiok Sheen-(vinegar pig trotter)-filled with black beans, radish's wedges, lots of sliced old ginger, sweetness from the palm sugar and aromatic black vinegar-trotter and lean meat were cooked to the right texture-5 stars!

Kai Lan Chow Chap-stir fried local Kai Lan (cut into 2' length) with sliced fish, chicken breast neat, lean pork, squid's rings, shrimp and carrot-with a dash of fragrant Chinese wine-good "wok hei"

Total Bill:Rm73/

FISHING VILLAGE RESTAURANT SDN BHD..

From our hotel at Gurney Drive to Teluk Bahang, the drive on the narrow and meandering uphill and downhill road was spellbinding with some 180 degree corners.

In the 60's Teluk Bahang was a favorite haunt for hippies and backpackers to hang out, lazing in the sun, cheap food and lodging, music and getting high. It was their heaven and they did not name it "the end of the world" for nothing.

Anyway, after the hotel's Row, it's was scenic all the way with some stretches of beach to be seen.
On reaching, The End of the World Restaurant, turned right and at the first junction turned left is the location of the Fishing Village Restaurant Sdn Bhd.

A beach dotted with small boats was about 20m from the restaurant. It was nice to have a walk around with the sea breeze blowing in your face before the dinner proper!

Parking around the restaurant is Rm2/car.

The no frills and minimalists open restaurant with only ceiling fans for comfort and later on in the night, mosquitoes for company-open from 3pm-11pm.

Cheese baked half shell oyster-was of medium size-fresh, creamy and cheesy.

Steamed Sea Prawn- generously sized prawns with superior stock-fresh, juicy and succulent.

Steamed Red Snapper-Teochew style-when it's fresh nothing beat it by steaming-fresh and sweet with a tangy flavor.

Vietnamese fried Chicken-marinated with too much Curry powder and deep fried- Satay like sauce for dip-the meat was too dry and hard.

Salt baked Crab-baked with all the innards intact-fragrant, fresh, some saltiness and meat was fine in texture.

Blanched Kai Lan topped with Oyster sauce-only green for the night.

Location map.

(Thanks to Mr & Mrs Sunny Ooi)
Total bill:Rm260/

RESTAURANT EXTRA SUPER TANKER(PJ) SDN BHD.

Oh! what a unique name for a Chinese restaurant- Restaurant Extra Super Tanker!!!!
Location wise, it is just a stone throwaway from the Damansara Specialists Hospital in Damansara Kim.

From the exterior it was impressive but once we stepped inside i think the restaurant was desperately in need of some refurbishment.

A gracious waitress greeted and welcomed us at the door and politely ushered us to our table in the middle of the restaurant.

We were served braised Soy peanuts and Acar (assorted pickled vegetables) for appetizer and for drinks we opted for a pot of "Pu-erh" tea.

As we were hungry, we ordered their signature and Chef's recommendation dishes, a fail safe method that never disappoint.

The Thousand Layer Crispy Beancurd-garnished with freshly chopped Spring Onion and deep fried fragrant Shallots and bathed in Light Soy sauce-crispy, firm, smooth and layered with Housemade Fish and Meat paste-a noteworthy dish!-Rm22/

Prawn Omelette (Wrong order) was served instead of Fried Crabmeat with Egg and Pine seed-anyway it was generous with prawns and well browned-Rm15/.

Fried Squid (Calamari)-well battered, crispy, spicy and chewy-Rm15/.

Braised Pork ribs with Pig' stomach-a surprisingly good combination-Herbal flavored-tender and meaty-Rm50/.

The Star of the night-A huge Steamed Red Snapper in Light Soy sauce-garnished with Coriander leaves and Spring Onion-sweet, smooth and fine in texture-Rm96/.

White Hong Kong Cabbage in superior soup-crunchy and stemmy-Rm20/.

Total bill:Rm250/.
