GOOD FRIEND-GENTING-2 visit..

Good Friend is one of the many F&B outlets in Genting Highland, Pahang which we like to patronized.
Their menu are quite extensive and varied from Dim Sum, Western food to typical Chinese cuisine.

We had a light lunch as tonight there will be an eight course dinner at The Genting International Convention Center Ballroom.

After the meal we had a short fling at the numerous money gobbling Slot machines in the casino.

We were lucky to have won some money, as Lady Luck was on our side
.

A plate of crispy 3 layer roast Pork belly and well marinated meaty Char Siew served with some pickled vegetable-Rm30/.

Clay pot white Bean curd with Fish maw-the tasty thick gravy was perfect with rice-Rm13.30/.

Stir fried Kai Lan with salted fish, some red Chillies and diced big onion-was a bit salty but very appetizing-Rm13.30.

RESTORAN GENTING PALACE.

We went on a one day trip to Genting Highlands to escape the city's heat.

After a light breakfast of Yong Tofu, we arrived at the peak at about 10.30 am.

We went on a twenty minutes ride on a cute caterpillar Monorail train (Rm8/person) which started from the Indoor Theme Park and encircled around the Outdoor Theme Park with a great view of the whole resort- people howled and screamed on terror adrenalin pumping rides like Rollercoaster, Spaceshot, Pirate Ship, Giant Swing, ....etc

The weather was kind to us-cool, windy and misty with thick white clouds overhead, just nice for a walk around.

Came lunchtime, we ate at Restoran Genting Palace located just a few steps from the main casino.
Restoran Genting Palace is grand with a warm, cozy and quiet ambiance.

Service was good and attentive.

The front of the restaurant.

The interior.

Sea prawns fritter-fried to perfection-crispy on the outside and juicy and succulent inside-a bit oily though!-Rm45/

BBQ meat platter-braised Duck, slithery Jellyfish, flavorful baby Octopus, crispy roasted Chicken and meaty BBQ Pork with a yin yang sauce dip-too bad the dish was served cold- Rm50/

Steamed Cod-bathed in good sweet tasting XO Soy sauce and garnished with spring onion and cilantro-gelatinous skin with meat which was fresh, smooth and very fine in texture-Rm56/

FISHING VILLAGE RESTAURANT SDN BHD..

From our hotel at Gurney Drive to Teluk Bahang, the drive on the narrow and meandering uphill and downhill road was spellbinding with some 180 degree corners.

In the 60's Teluk Bahang was a favorite haunt for hippies and backpackers to hang out, lazing in the sun, cheap food and lodging, music and getting high. It was their heaven and they did not name it "the end of the world" for nothing.

Anyway, after the hotel's Row, it's was scenic all the way with some stretches of beach to be seen.
On reaching, The End of the World Restaurant, turned right and at the first junction turned left is the location of the Fishing Village Restaurant Sdn Bhd.

A beach dotted with small boats was about 20m from the restaurant. It was nice to have a walk around with the sea breeze blowing in your face before the dinner proper!

Parking around the restaurant is Rm2/car.

The no frills and minimalists open restaurant with only ceiling fans for comfort and later on in the night, mosquitoes for company-open from 3pm-11pm.

Cheese baked half shell oyster-was of medium size-fresh, creamy and cheesy.

Steamed Sea Prawn- generously sized prawns with superior stock-fresh, juicy and succulent.

Steamed Red Snapper-Teochew style-when it's fresh nothing beat it by steaming-fresh and sweet with a tangy flavor.

Vietnamese fried Chicken-marinated with too much Curry powder and deep fried- Satay like sauce for dip-the meat was too dry and hard.

Salt baked Crab-baked with all the innards intact-fragrant, fresh, some saltiness and meat was fine in texture.

Blanched Kai Lan topped with Oyster sauce-only green for the night.

RESTORAN GREEN VIEW

Restaurant Green View was always packed whenever we drive passed it, on our way to the SS2 area. It is located next to Menara Merias in Section 19, Petaling Jaya. Every now and then they have promotion on their crab dishes. I like their signature dish -fried big river prawns (udang galah) mein, cooked in thick egg gravies and their sweet and sour XL crabs. This place is opens 365 days and service is fast and efficient. Parking is not too much of a problem. Tonight my nephew and his wife joined us for dinner there.

Appetizer-fried bean curd with freshly sliced onions rings, century egg and tiny bits of pickled ginger-dipped in Thai chillies sauce for added flavor-appetizing-rm12/
.

Sea prawns done in two styles-shelled and de-veined 1.lightly battered prawns with mayonnaise and honey dew 2.buttered prawns-was fresh and succulent.-rm70/

Fish head curry-full of fish meat and vegetables-was not too spicy, with a lot of chillies oil skimming on the surface -best with fluffy white fragrant rice.-rm50/

Herbal chicken 1/2- overpowering with too much herbs making the gravies a big letdown to the palate.-rm30/

Stir fry kai lan and choy sam-with cloved garlic-the fresh and green colors make it so tempting -need it to balance off the meat.-rm15/

Fried big la la (shellfish) in preserved bean sauce-it was big and tasty.-rm40/

RESTORAN KING CRAB

The front of Restoran King Crab, on one side is covered with a huge poster of a giant crab with neon lights. It's exterior yellow color painted walls is sure eye catching. If you are driving on the LDP highway, from Sunway heading towards Kepong , you will not missed it. The interior is painted in a shade of yellowish apple green. The kitchen is huge and can be view from the outside through a glass panel. There are some aquariums for storing the live fishes and crustaceans. The dining area is air conditioned and spanned two floors. We decided to forgo home cooked food today and had dinner at this restaurant. It is located in Taman Mewah Jaya, opposite the Kelana Jaya LRT station in Petaling Jaya. As it's name implies they specializes in fresh seafood especially crab and live fishes, done in all types of style. Funnily, for tonight the 12 of us, we did not order any crab dishes. The food portions served was huge and generous. Parking is ample after 7pm. Please make a reservation if it's on a weekend.

Lai pak"mini swiss chard" in superior soup-golden needle mushroom, wolf berries-soup was flavorful while the vegetable was leafy and crunchy

Braised angled aloofahs with bean curd -egg gravy was smooth and tasty - the best that i have ever eaten in a long time-best!

Roast chicken 1/2 - some prawn cracker with sliced cucumber-was tender and hot from the oven

Egg omelette with prawns and onions-was nicely done with lots of prawns

Braised duck 1/2 with kai lan (Chinese broccoli)-was tasty and meaty with a distinct flavor

Steamed white whisker river catfish-flesh was fine in texture and superbly fresh and sweet, but the skin was rubbery

Buttered squid's ring - was too sweet and not crunchy, the battered egg was fluffy, buttery and lots of curry leaves flavor.
