Genetically Modified Fish?

The "Si Tau Wan" is now one of the most popular fresh water fish available to anglers in pay fishing ponds.

It has a Big head fish' s head and a slender of body of the grass carp fish with a bluish/black color.

I wonder if it's genetically modified?

We had a first taste of this fish when an angler friend gave one to us.

It weighs about 2 kg and was alive and kicking !

Came lunchtime, we went to our regular restaurant to get it cleaned and cooked.

Si Tau Wan Fish-cross between Big Head Fish and Grass Carp Fish.

Steamed with blended ginger-the body flesh was fresh, thick and smooth with lots of  fine fork-like bones- the fish's cheek and  the back of it's eye's balls were filled with collagen like flesh- no fishy after taste- Rm13 to get it cooked.

Sweet Potato Balls.

The Pasar Malam stalls at Cameron Highlands have the best fried sweet potato balls.

The ones at Fong Lye Taiwanese Restaurant @ The Gardens are pale in comparison.

And my home made sweet potato ball has a natural sweetness and flavor to it.

The best thing about it? It is so easy to make.

 Ingredients:
500gm Red colored Sweet Potato (peel, cut, steam and mash)
2 tbs sugar.
40gm-all purpose flour (shift)
50gm-tapioca flour.

Mix mashed potato with the flour, sugar and some water.
Shape kneaded dough into marble shaped balls (for easy eating)
Coat with tapioca flour.
Deep fried it on low heat till golden brown.
Colander it and it is ready to be serve.

Sweet potato balls-golden brown-crispy on the outside and soft inside - full of natural sweetness and flavor of sweet potato.

Ginger wine Chicken/ Rice Vermicelli Soup.

After a heavy bout of eating and entertainment, last week.
My stomach went into overdrive-bloated with an uneasiness feeling.

Today lunch mission was to get rid of the "stomach's wind" hence I ordered a bowl of ginger wine chicken (drumstick) with rice vermicelli.
The cook recommended me to add pig's kidney but I declined-am afraid of urine smell if not clean properly.

Ginger wine chicken is more of a confinement dish.
I still remembered those delicious and heaty food cooked by the lady who took care of my wife and our baby during her confinement-whenever there are any leftover, I would finished it off.

Ginger wine chicken with rice vermicelli soup-filled with a chopped chicken drumstick, julienned ginger fried with  an egg-served with sprigs of coriander leaves-the ginger wine was a bit diluted but not too choking-chicken meat was fresh and tender-was effective to break the "wind"-Rm5.50/

Location: a stall in Restoran Happy O,
Pandan Perdana, Cheras.
