San Tai Thong Seafood & Steamboat.

We were on our way to attend a wake at Xiao En in Cheras.

On the way we stopped at San Tai Thong  Seafood and Steamboat for a quick dinner.

This 'tai chow' is a corner lot of a row of old 3 storey shop houses located in Taman Pertama, Cheras- behind Station One in Cheras.

The place looks a bit rundown but the food is good and they offer quite a long list of dishes written on a whiteboard.

Will go back to try their other dishes.

Parking is ample.

Chee Kiok Sheen Beehoon

Have you ever tried Chee Kiok Sheen (black vinegar pig's trotter stew) with beehoon (rice vermicelli) ?

Oh ! it is out of this world !

This particular stall's chef is very innovative and he cooks 38 different types of fried noodle/noodle with broth everyday.

So far I have tried his herbal chicken thigh noodle and Kong Nam mee and came away satisfied.

Chee Kiok Sheen-filled with 5 pieces of trotter which were stewed till it was soft and bouncy with ligament and tender meat, sliced ginger, dried red chillies, Chinese black vinegar which were not too choking and beehoon-sweet and sourish with a sharp taste-Rm6.50.

RESTORAN MAKANAN TEOW CHEW.

For the past week, the whole of Klang Valley especially Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya was like a big chimney-smoky and stuffy.

Restoran Makanan Teow Chew located on the ground

Besides plain white whole grain rice hot porridge with dainty side dishes they also served delicious Claypot Chicken rice.

The place is low ceilinged with many ceiling and wall fans to keep it's customers cool.

JUN KEE RESTAURANT (CHERAS) SDN BHD.

Saturday lunchtime with my buddies, we went to Restoran Jun Kee in Taman Midah, Cheras, a typical neighbor restaurant with two shop lots back to back.

The place was clean and compact with floor to ceiling tiling and a glass panel enclosure for BBQ chicken, Char Siew and roast Pork and Duck.

As the restaurant have two sections, all their staff were equipped with walkie-talkie for easy communication.

The shop front.

Roast Duck (1/4) plus Char Siew (BBQ pork) -the Duck looks dry but the meat was moist and tender with a distinct flavor with each bite-the Char Siew (BBQ Pork) was average-Rm20/

CHICKEN RICE-KAR KAR LOY

This shop is nameless except for a signboard in Chinese characters-Kar Kar Loy (meaning Welcome Everyone) stating that it is an eatery. It is located along Jalan Peel in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur just opposite the more affluent Queen Park Center and next to a SHELL station. Their signature dishes are roast chicken, char siew (roast pork), braised pig trotter and braised chicken feet. Be there early or you will missed out on the delicious chicken feet! The photos are not so clear as it was snapped with a mobile phone's camera. Overall it was a good lunchtime meal.

Char siew-three layer pork belly-well marinated, charcoal fire roasted and caramelized with honey.

Braised chicken feet-was soft and smooth-just melt in your mouth-delicious.

Braised pig trotter-was cooked together with the chicken feet-meat was tough but the thick and fatty gravy goes well the white rice.

Blanched bean sprout-was fat, fresh and crunchy with sweet light soy sauce.

Roast chicken-1/4 thigh portion-charcoal fire roasted-tender meat and crispy skin-all times favorite!

PAN MEE

I had my lunch of Pan Mee (dough made from wheat flour and eggs) at Restoran Fock Guan in Pandan Perdana Commercial center. Cheras. The lady running this stall, has the warmest and cutest smile to melt into your heart. She cooks a "mean" pan mee-there are two types 1. Machine made or 2. Hand torn. I ordered the hand torn ones and told her to pull and stretch it as thinly as possible.
All this while i thought my wife's version was the best but this lady's version is quite close and could match hers.' Anyway the broth she uses is anchovies based when my wife is fish based, which is more milky- like, both versions were just as tasty with lots of spinach added to it! This stall open from 8.15 a.m. till late noon and be prepare to wait as she cooks each bowl of Pan Mee individually.

The lovely lady with a big smile for all her customers.

Vegetables available are Spinach and Kow Kei Choy.

The broth was clear and tasty and filled with smooth hand torn Pan Mee and topped with extra spinach, minced meat, 4 pieces of pork balls, strips of black fungus, chopped spring onion and nicely browned crackling anchovies- I was perspiring after this yummy meal-rm5/

Hot, spicy chilies to add flavor to the Pan Mee.
