YEE SANG-RAW FISH SALAD.
Yee Sang (raw fish salad) is normally eaten on the 7th day of the Chinese New Year Festival i.e 1/2/2009. But now it have been commercialized, Yee Sang is now available, one month before the festival proper. Anyway, Yee Sang is a celebratory dish, a New Year's favorite which symbolizes prosperity. The popular raw fish used are usually the salmon, grass carp or snake head fish. This dish is best enjoyed, together with friends and family, by each using a pair of chopsticks to toss and mix all the ingredients to as high as possible and shouting out your wishes for the year!-like wealth and prosperity! After that everyone, get to taste and enjoy it. We had this Yee Sang dish (snake head fish) which cost us RM23/ (1/2 portion) at Kam Kee Seafood Restaurant in Taman Petaling off Jalan Gasing in Petaling Jaya.
The thinly sliced Snake head fish-sprinkled with some 5 Spices powder, ground white pepper and some squeezed lime juice. Then mixed it up with all the ingredients below.
The ingredients are:pickled ginger, pomelo, thinly sliced radish, carrot, fresh ginger, coriander leaves, spring onions, dough crackers, toasted sesame seeds, ground peanut (taste better with cashew nuts) , add some peanut oil and specially concocted secret sour plum sauce- then tossed it well.
After all the high, higher and highest of tossing- was a well mixed Yee Sang (raw fish salad)-a good starter- have taste, colors and texture-crunchy dough crackers with every bite, tasty fresh raw fish- sweet, sour and fruity taste of all the mixed ingredients- "BEST "
