Tai Lei Loi Kei@Plaza33.

I love anything that is associated with pig-dead or alive.

Did you all know that every parts of the pig can be used and be eaten ?

The anatomy of a pig is almost similar to a human being !

My wife makes one of my favorite pork chop (loin eye muscle minus the rib bone) using her secret marinade.

Tai Lei Loi Kei, Pork chop@Rm13.90/ is a different entity from hers'

The marinade is light with a tinge of saltiness-the deep fried pork chop is just rightly cooked,
rendering it to be tender, meaty with a crunch with every bite.

The Polo Bun that covers the Pork Chop is way too small-i ate it by biting around the pork edges-then together with the bun and ended the meal with a good chew around the rib's bone.

Overall a fulfilling and hearty meal for lunch.

Choon Prawn Mee House.

I ate my first mee yoke or prawn mee when I was about nine years old.

Back in the 60's there was this Penang guy named Ah Choon who sells one of the best mee yoke from his mobile tricycle.

My mum and her mahjong kakis would wait for him during lunch hour.

The sounds of tock, tock, tock make by clucking two pieces of bamboo with his hands was his signal.

The mee yoke was real authentic Penang style.

Later in the 70's, he graduated to a three wheelers motorcycle.

In the 80's he operated from a stall in Lin Seng Garden - we used to go for our

weekend breakfast and after a few years he left the scene.

I thought Choon Prawn Mee House was his but it was not !

The prawn mee served here is authentic but there is much chillies oil which can be quite
choking, the shrimps with it's tail intact is way too sweet and the soup is also sweet which
empowers the prawn broth.

At Rm6.50 a bowl-it's needs some tweaking.

Umma Son Korean Restaurant.

I don't really eat Korean food too often.

I am no expert on it but if it's good and appeal to my taste buds I will be a convert.

My children loves Korean food and they have good taste too!

As for me, the urge to try Korean food was after watching "Barefoot Friends"
where these group of Korean artistes get to eat authentic home cooked Korean food
at their host's home.

Umma Son is just the right place for authentic home cooked styled Korean food.

Not much decor and if you are early, not crowded (can be too quiet).

The side dishes of banchan are the  usual stuff, the kimchi and julienne potato salad standout....etc

The pork ribs (half rack) soup is thick and full of flavor with potato, oyster mushroom, spring onion and chillies-tender and meaty.

Another claypot dish comes with springy noodle, rice, beans, tofu, ham, sausage, oyster mushroom, golden needle mushroom and spring onion in a sweet, sour, spicy soup.

The chicken gizzards fried with onion, garlic, black sesame, red and green chillies is crunchy and a good workout for the jaw.

The well fried golden brown savory seafood (squid, shrimp and scallion) pancake is exceptionally good

Parking is bearable.

Tong Nam Bee@Raub.

An original Hainanese kopitiam, with mostly local patrons.

Three ornate wooden framed giant mirrors, rarely found nowadays, adorned one side of the interior wall.

Besides their famous signature Hainanese toast and coffee-chicken and char siew fun is available.

We had their toast bread and buns with butter and kaya plus half boiled eggs.

The toast is quite thick, light weight and toasted to crispy brown.

I like to spread the green pandan flavored kaya on one side of the toast with a piece of butter, fold
it and bite off it-delicious !

The half boiled was made just right with the white (creamy) and the yellow yolk (intact and runny when poked)-sprinkled some pepper and a few drops of soy sauce-it's heaven.

The rest have coffee while i had a honey lemon ice drink.

Ice Cream@Kow Po.

I am not a fan of ice cream because sweetness is a foul word in not in my vocabulary.

The long drive from Petaling Jaya to Bentong in the hot afternoon
was an exception and a good excuse to try it.

The homemade ice cream in Kedai Kopi (Warung Ais Krim) Kow Po comes in various flavors.

It costs Rm3/ per scoop.

We ordered 3 different sets i.e Ais Kacang or Kow Po Special and Jumbo Special with fruits cocktails and the homemade ice cream was much to my liking-dense, creamy and not too sweet.

Parking is OK.

Restoran Song Huang Ge@Laman Pesona.

Laman Pesona is a well planned resort- for the owner it is more like a retreat
to spend the weekends with his family and also with guests paying for the steep and winding road
to their chalets built on a sloping hill of a former durian orchard.

View from our balcony.

Access to the chalets are by two 4x4 vehicles or by foot for those who
are more adventurous and physically strong.

There are two restaurants (Thai food and Chinese cuisine) and they are open
to the public.

We had an early dinner at the 4 stars Restoran Song Huang Ge and was impressed
with the food served.

Steamed Cod fish (4 plates)with seaweed, beancurd sheet and coriander leave in a superior grade soy sauce-Rm57/.

Freshly grilled BBQ Pork Ribs- meaty and juicy-Rm26.60/.

Shatin Chicken (4 pieces) well marinated- with a sweet and sourish sauce of chopped onion  topped with dried cuttle fish-Rm22.80/

House made Tofu (smooth and silky)  topped with finely chopped Poh Choy with blanched Poh Choy at the bottom with smooth gravy and garnished with mushroom-Rm14.30/..

After the dinner, we took a walk around the resort which has transformed into a fairytale-like land with lots of shimmering and colorful lighting. A soothing relieve after dark.

Yong Liu @ Bidor.

I did not expect to have such a good spread of Yong Liu (fish paste stuffed greens and assorted
tofu, fried wanton, fu pei, fish balls in Bidor Town, which is more famous for it's duck's noodle and "chicken biscuit".

This no name and no signboard place is located next to Bali Garden and opposite of TNB.

It's a single storey shop with a light green metal door.

They are open from 7.30 pm- 3.00am.

Noodles in soup or dry form are available to go with the yong liu.

The yong liu are pretty decent, nicely stuffed with springy fish paste-big bite
sized @Rm0.70/ and plain noodle @Rm1.30/
We did not go for the fish balls as it looks like store bought ones.

If you have the chance, drop by here for a value for money and hearty meal.

Parking is by the roadside.

Restoran Ratha@Raub.

It's the most famous and prominently located restaurant with a red exterior at a dangerous corner
of Raub town.

A not to be missed place to eat, famous for it's curry chicken and fish head curry...etc.

We were on our way to Laman Pesona Resort, a twenty minutes drive after Raub town.

Dropped by here for a hearty lunch of  fish head curry (some Chinese's influence), chicken curry (fiery hot and spicy), fried chicken, briyani rice, roti canai (very special) and cabbage.

The fried chicken lost it's lustre because it was served cold and lost it's crispiness.

The chicken curry was average, saved for it's fiery red and spicy numbing gravy.

The fish head curry served in a metal bowl with the fresh fish head hidden by a  generously spread of long bean, brinjal, lady fingers, cabbage and tofu puff in a aromatic and not too spicy curry gravy-suitable for children, too !

Plain Chines cabbage to go with the meal.

Special less oil and less dough roti canai-best with the curries.

Nasi Briyani-Fluffy, long grain, colorful and fragrant Basnathi rice.

Loh Mai Kai (Homemade)

Lor mai kai (glutinous rice with chicken) is always found in any Dim Sum menu.

It's always prominently displayed at the front entrance of many coffee shops.

Usually kept warm in a glass covered cabinet together with other paos.

A quick bite for those who has no time to make breakfast at home.

Commercial Lor mai kai is steamed glutinous rice with marinated lean chicken
meat and mushroom made with an inverted tin bowl and served on a plate.

Home made ones are much tastier as the added ingredients are more varied with abalone,
Chinese sausage......etc and the XO oyster sauce used.

Glutinous rice like pulut susu is used as it's excellent for it's smooth and sticky texture.

Ali, Muthu and Ah Hock@Oasis,Ara Damansara.

When i first heard the name Ali, Muthu and Ah Hock -my thought were, are they a new comedy skit ?

No, Ali, Muthu and Ah Hock is a kopitiam, serving delicious local dishes and drinks.

The name sounds so Muhibbahish and so Malaysian.

Anyway, Oasis@Ara Damansara is a good location for food/work and stay.

The similarities and tastes in the food served here, as in Village Park@Uptown
is almost identical with the exception that  their Nasi Lemak is at a upmarket price of Rm9.50/plate.

We ordered their signature Nasi Lemak served with deep fried tumeric flavored chicken
drumstick (not as fragrant or piping hot but the taste is intact), deep fried anchovies(too dry), peanut, sambal and cucumber and another plate of Nasi Kunyit/Roti Jala that combined so well with the creamy and spicy Curry Chicken and potato.

 Parking is OK.

Tonkatsu by Ma Maison.

Tonkatsu originated in Japan in the 19th century.

Tonkatsu ( pork cutlet rice or chu pah fun is a dish which consists of a deep fried breaded pork cutlet, served as a single dish with plain rice or multi-coloured rice, miso soup and shredded cabbage.

As i am not so much of a pork eater, the temptation to try it, was pushed aside,
until a rave review by ILikeToEatLah .

I ordered a Jumbo Hire Katsu set and a Potato Salad to share with my wife.

The big chunk of tenderized pork fillet (with some layers of fats in between the meat) is coated with bread crumbs and then deep fried.
It tasted simple and clean with just pepper and salt as flavoring-crispy on the outer crust,
tender and moist on the inside-thumbs up !
Drenched the shredded cabbage with karashi (mustard) sauce for extra flavor.
Miso soup is refillable, too.

Michelle's order- a Prawns (generously sized sweet and succulent) and  Rosu (pork loin ) Katsu set and Mike's order-a Mameton set.

Overall it was a fulfilling and satisfying meal but a bit expensive.

Roast Chicken & Char Siew@Restoran Choon Yien.

This roast chicken and char siew stall is located in my neighborhood.

If you want a quick meal during your lunch break, this is the place
to patronize.

I was surprised that I did not blog about it.

The nice thing about the roast farmed chicken is that it is served piping hot.
The best seller is their caramelized BBQ pork (be early if you want a piece of
this porcine goodness)
The sweet, sourish Chinese mustard green is nothing to shout about !
Soup of the day is free.

Prices are steep, compared to others.

Parking is bearable.

Bak Kut Teh@Restoran Kim Tek.

Restoran Kim Tek, bring back memories for me.

Thirty plus years ago when they were located along the Sg Buluh-Subang
main road, I was one of their regular customer.

I will have a bowl of dark, robust herbal flavored "sai kuat" (small bone-shaped like a chicken thigh) BKT with a hot pot of Puer tea, before heading to my pig's farm in Sg Buluh New Village.

The boss's brother (found out that he passed away) was a friend of mine.

At this location in Kepong Indah - business is brisk and the BKT taste is still intact.

We ordered a clay pot of sai kuat, trotter, intestine, stomach with fresh lettuce
served piping hot- a bowl of braised chicken feet and a plate of alkaline rice cake
to go with the Bak Kut Teh.

Parking is bearable.
