ROOM EIGHTEEN.

We had our Sunday lunch at the newly opened Room Eighteen at Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya.
The setting was contemporary, high ceiling, bright and spacious with the main kitchen at the front (left hand side) of the restaurant.
The servers were mostly young punks barely knowledgeable about the food on the menu.
Service were acceptable, quickly attended to, on beckoning them.
The food served are more Chinese fusion, leaning towards Hong Kong style.

The kitchen at the far end.

Nice Utensils.

Braised Beef noodles- generous amount of tender sliced beef and the noodle was springy too-Rm14.80/.

Seafood Congee-Porridge was ultra smooth and translucent with no rice residue, served with scissor cut Cruller, finely sliced Ginger, Spring Onion, strips of Chicken, Lettuce and roasted Peanuts-a real comfort dish!-Rm11.80/

Braised Seafood Mixed Noodle-served with blanched Choy Sam surrounding the plate, 2 small Prawns (cut into 1/2), flower cut Squid and tiny pieces of sliced Fish-luckily the noodle was springy with tastefully tossed sauce or else!!-Rm16.80

Crispy Roasted Pork Belly-was the best-with crispy, crackling skin and lovely 3 layered fats and meat-Rm14.80/.

Prickled Green Chillies, Light Soy Sauce and Sambal Chillies.

TEOWCHEW CHENDUL-PENANG ROAD.

This Teochew Chendul stall is a landmark in Penang, a must for locals and tourists alike. It is located at a backlane off Lebuh Keng Kwee in Penang Road.
My family and I were there on a hot afternoon and we had to stand to enjoy the Iced cool Chendul.

After we have finished, the stall told us that we could drink in comfort at a house a few doors away.
S**t ! after all the sweating under the hot sun!!

Ice Kachang (ABC) and other drinks are available too.

Teowchew Chendul-finely shaved Ice, Coconut milk, Pandan (Screwpine) flavored Green starch noodle, Red bean, Kidney bean and Gula Melaka (Palm sugar)-fragrant with Coconut flavor and right amount of sweet, aromatic Palm sugar-prefer this version to the Nyonya's ones which are too "lemak"-Rm1.70/

Location: Back lane off lorong Keng Kwee,
Penang Road, Penang.

BANGKOK LANE MEE GORENG

This Mamak (Indian Muslim) Mee Goreng (Fried Noodle) and Mee Rebus (Cooked Noodle) stall is the main tenant of the Seng Lee Cafe, located in Bangkok Lane, Penang, a stone throwaway from the Pulau Tikus wet market.
The exterior have been repainted with two tone colors which matches the surrounding grand Prewar shops and houses.

The steep stairs access to the high level shop is a bit difficult for old people but the good food was well worth the climb!

The shop is small with limited seats, Be warn-go early.

Service was excellent, the servers and cooks are bi-lingual too.

All the ingredients are fresh and looks inviting.

The cook at "wok"-twirling and frying the Mee Goreng.

Mee Rebus-(Cooked Yellow Noodle)-filled with hard boiled Egg, Prawns fritter, braised Cuttlefish, Tau kua (cubed deep fried Bean curd) chopped Lettuce and bathed in a thick Red Chillies /Tomatoes gravy-was generous in portion-a bit spicy-highly addictive but I am quite skeptical about the red colored gravy-Rm4/

Mee Goreng-(Fried Yellow Noodle) their signature dish-fried with Potatoes, fried Egg, Tau kua (cubed deep fried beancurd) and well braised Chillies dried Cuttlefish, Sweet Potatoes/Tomatoes sauce and garnished with chopped Lettuce-squeeze some Lemon juice for a tangy flavor-came piping hot-fragrant, delicious and yummy!- Rm4/

Butter Toast Bread-served with a bamboo-pick-easy eating for my two young nephews.

Wan Ton Soup(10 pieces)-ordered from a mobile stall outside the shop-the Wan Ton was smooth and filled with tasty minced pork and prawn-Rm3/-for extra White Radish add Rm1/.

Location: Seng Lee Cafe,

AH SOON CHAR KOAY TEOW-HOME DELIVERY (HILLSIDE)

If you are living around the quiet Hillside's neighborhood in Tanjung Bungah, Penang there are chances that you might have made use of their unique service.
Ah Soon Char Koay Teow home delivery on wheels (Tanjung Bungah area only)- just like what those fast food guys are doing!!

The husband/wife and son (weekend only) team operates from a three wheel motorbike's stall, outside Kafe Huat Heng.
Beside CKT, they have Koay Teow Th'ng, too.

I observed that most customers go more for their CKT which are fried to order. When there is a delivery to be made, the wife or son will take over but some insisted on waiting forthe father because he is the better cook.

Open from 12 p.m till about 6 p.m-customers come and go.

Char Keow Teow-was charcoal fried with lard oil-filled with sliced Chinese sausage, prawn, cockles, Chinese chives, egg, chillies, deep fried lard and lots of beansprouts-fragrant and not too oily-one of my fave in Penang-Rm3.20/.

This plate with no cockle, no chillies but extra beansprouts and Chinese chives.

Location:Kafe Huat Heng,

Jalan Sungei Kelian,

Hillside, Tanjung Bungah,

Penang.
