Kafe Lin's@Melaka.

Six months ago, we had only cendol@ Kafe Lin's with a Melaka friend, Ruby, who swears
it was one of the best, around.

That time we did not get to try their authentic Peranakan mixed dishes ala mixed rice dishes style
because we were full from a great meal of mee rebus near Ujong Pasir.

This weekend, we arrived famished there at about 1:45pm after a hot and sweaty tour of Jonker Street and it's surrounding attractions.

All in we picked about eight dishes rich and spicy, all done Peranakan style.

The food is delicious and authentically cooked the way my mum used to cook for me.

 Parking is ample.

Fried chicken marinated with tumeric -crispy skin and tender and meaty.

Petai with onion and anchovies in hot and spicy sambal chillies paste.

Sea prawns/Squid sambal belacan chillies.

Assam Senangin chunks with ladyfngers and brinjal.

Stir fried sliced bitter  gourd with eggs.

Pongteh Chicken-just odd parts left, nevertheless the gravy goes well with rice.

Stir fried Spinach topped with deep fried shallots.

Fried eggs.

Cendol with kidney beans, gula Melaka, coconut milk......just nice and fragrant.

A great meal.

Delicious Dinner 45.

A series of home cooked dinner by my wife.

Deep fried Garoupa fish garnished with ginger/garlic oil/soy sauce.

Steamed home made Tengirri Papan fish balls seated on a bed on Chinese long cabbage and topped with garlic oil-was inspired by the springy Wolf Herring fish balls of Restoran Rasa Lain in Bercham, Ipoh.

Spinach in fish stock soup with duck's egg, chicken meat and wolf berries.

RESTORAN HONG NGEK

Saturday lunch time with my buddies, we went downtown to Kuala Lumpur city and ate at Restoran Hong Ngek, an established old school "Tai Chow" Kopitiam.

For the past eight years Restoran Hong Ngek was single-handedly run by Ah Ling, the daughter-in-law of it's late owner.

The food have remained consistent from the good old days albeit more pricey now.

When we reached there, the ground floor was packed with the lunchtime crowds, we were then ushered upstairs to the air conditioned dining area.

As L. Kan was a regular, the orders were quickly taken with a fuss.

Parking is horrible!

View of renovated Pre-war shop houses opposite from where we were seated.

Upstairs dining area.

Garoupa in Nyonya sauce-fish was fresh and meaty-small in size-the piquant Nyonya sauce was perfect with piping hot white rice.

Braised Pig Trotter-was well braised and not too much of 5 Spices powder flavor-loves the tendon and ligament (delicious right to the bones!)

Tofu with Fish Maw and blanched Broccoli in Superior gravy-the Fish maw was of high quality and the Tofu was soft and smooth.

Fried Mee Suah noodle with light Soy sauce-was full of ingredients like Beansprouts, Choy Sam, slices of lean Pork, prawns and lard-yummy.

Stir fried Bayam (Spinach) to balance off the meal.

RESTORAN LUCKY SIN

The owner of this restaurant is very gimmicky in the sense that he gives the customers what they want, in terms of voucher, free desserts and the promotion of rm5.80/dish to draw in the lunch time crowd. He was formerly a chef in the Overseas Restaurant so his dishes are quite presentable and good value for money. It is located in Taman Shamelin Perkasa, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur facing the crossroad junction of the Bintang Smart school. It is also a stone throwaway distance from my office. Today the five were very carnivorous because we ordered five meat dishes and only one vegetable.

The front facade of the restaurant.

The place was simple and clean but the bright yellow tablecloth was a bit too outlandish.

Stir fry lean meat with ginger and spring onion- meaty and lovely texture

Minced meat with choy poh(preserved dry vegetable stem)-perfectly blended.

Clay pot braised mutton-very gamy and buttery in aroma-goes well with the sesame oil, chillies prickled bean curd sauce below.
Spinach in superior soup-with anchovies and some wolf berries and the sole green to balance off the meat.

Pig's stomach soup-was peppery in taste and doesn't have the "burn your throat" sensation.

Pig's intestine cooked with dry shrimp-the shrimp was crispy and lend a good taste to the otherwise bland intestine(only from female pigs)

The team of carnivorous eater.

DELICIOUS DINNER 2

A series of home cooked dinner food featuring my wife's cooking. Shall post it on every now and then.

Stir fry spinach with garlic-full of iron and fiber.

Deep fried ikan parang(wolf herring)-sweet and taste better if dip in sambal belacan.

ABC soup-potatoes, carrots, big onion - i love this soup.

Steamed free range chicken with herbs- meat was herbs flavored and tender.
