CNY Dinner @ Dragon Star Seafood Restaurant..

This will be the tenth time we are having Yee Sang for dinner.

Tonight it was at Dragon Star Seafood Restaurant, one of my favorite restaurant.

The Salmon Yee Sang @ Rm40 for half portion was only just average, saved for those cashew nuts that we added to it which added some nutty flavor with every bite.

The rest of the dishes were consistent with what they usually served and was up to our expectations except for the Tofu.

Overall a great and affordable dinner to end the CNY !

Salmon Yee Sang (1/2 portion)-was average with a sweet plum sauce-we added our own Cashew nuts for more crunchiness-Rm40/
Braised Pig Trotter with Fatt Choy (black moss)-well marinated with soft tender meat and a bouncy skin-Rm38/
Braised house made Tofu stuffed tough fishpaste, topped with a shrimp and doused with a egg gravy-a big disappointment-Rm22/
Blanched stemmy, leafy, and crunchy Hong Kong Kai Lan-Rm24/
Steamed Loong Tan fish  (giant Garouper fish) -thickly sliced with collagen skin in a superior soy sauce/peanut oil-Rm120/
Wok fried generously sized Sea Prawns-fused with superior soy sauce-fragrant but not juicy-Rm60/
Green Dragon Vegetable-leafy with a pungent aroma-Rm24/

RESTORAN HONG NGEK

Saturday lunch time with my buddies, we went downtown to Kuala Lumpur city and ate at Restoran Hong Ngek, an established old school "Tai Chow" Kopitiam.

For the past eight years Restoran Hong Ngek was single-handedly run by Ah Ling, the daughter-in-law of it's late owner.

The food have remained consistent from the good old days albeit more pricey now.

When we reached there, the ground floor was packed with the lunchtime crowds, we were then ushered upstairs to the air conditioned dining area.

As L. Kan was a regular, the orders were quickly taken with a fuss.

Parking is horrible!

View of renovated Pre-war shop houses opposite from where we were seated.

Upstairs dining area.

Garoupa in Nyonya sauce-fish was fresh and meaty-small in size-the piquant Nyonya sauce was perfect with piping hot white rice.

Braised Pig Trotter-was well braised and not too much of 5 Spices powder flavor-loves the tendon and ligament (delicious right to the bones!)

Tofu with Fish Maw and blanched Broccoli in Superior gravy-the Fish maw was of high quality and the Tofu was soft and smooth.

Fried Mee Suah noodle with light Soy sauce-was full of ingredients like Beansprouts, Choy Sam, slices of lean Pork, prawns and lard-yummy.

Stir fried Bayam (Spinach) to balance off the meal.

Total bill:Rm135/
Location:50, Jalan Tun H.S. Lee (Jalan Bandar)
