GOPENG FAMOUS"LAI FUN TOU"

We skipped our normal dinner in order to savor this famous no-name restaurant in Gopeng, Perak which specialized in Lai Fun Tou" (homemade rice noodle served with a bowl of fish paste stuffed ingredients).

This shop opens at the dot of 8 pm nightly and closed shop when all the ingredients are sold out.

As we were early, the ten of us headed the queue with our orange colored "Tou"(Bowl) with others regulars streaming in to join us!

The ingredients cost 50 cents each, a bowl of Lai Fun(rice noodle)-Rm1.20, home brewed herbal drink-Rm1.10 and Soft drinks at Rm1.70.

Each us ordered two bowls of the Lai Fun and shared five "Tou"(Bowl) of the various "Liu" (ingredients)

HOI PENG SEAFOOD RESTAURANT (BRANCH)

After calling it a day at the successful ASD Launch Version 2.0 Sales at 3 Two Square, we went for dinner at Hoi Peng Seafood Restaurant (Branch) in SS2, Petaling Jaya which brought back good memories.

Twenty eight years ago, when my wife was pregnant with our first child, her food cravings were crabs. Back then the nearest and the best place to eat crabs was Hoi Peng (Main) in Old Klang Road and we patronized it at least once a week!

Now my daughter Mindy takes after her !! craving for crabs done in any style.

Tonight, we ordered some of their signature dishes.

Good appetizers-firm Century eggs with young pickled Ginger-taste wonderful, can't just stop eating at one-Rm9/.

Roast Chicken wings-was well marinated -with crispy skin and tender moist meat -Garlic/Ginger/Chili dip for extra flavor-Rm13.80/.

Lala(Clams)-was bathed in sweet superior stock soup with Bird's eye chillies to perk it one notch higher-Lala was fresh, fleshy and briny-Rm20/

House made Toufu-deep fried and filled with finely chopped carrot and fish paste-was firm and smooth with slices of fresh cucumber on the side-Rm15/.

Stir fried crunchy delicate flavored Green Asparagus with hot and spicy Sambal Belacan (Shrimp paste) cooked with medium size prawns which was fresh and succulent-Rm25/.

The Star of the night-2 big size Indonesia crabs (2 1/2 kg) done in their famous sweet, sour and spicy style (Fatty Crabs' too numbing)-the fresh and meaty crabs were cut up into bite pieces but the meat was a bit coarse in texture-the gooey gravy was lapped up clean with toasted bread-Rm110/.

RESTAURANT KEONG KEE.

Saturday lunch with my buddies, we went to Restaurant Keong Kee in Taman Putra, Cheras after we attended to a client in the Taman Muda area.

Restaurant Keong Kee is a famous established eatery, with lots of regular and family diners.

The ground floor interior is a small but exudes a relaxing and inviting ambiance, with alfresco dining on the five foot walkway of the restaurant's front.
The place is hygienic and clean with floor to ceiling tiling with an air conditioned dining area tucked away upstairs.

Parking is terrible.

Assorted roasted meat in a glass paneled enclosure.

Pork ribs in Orange juice sauce-was lightly battered-deep fried and smothered with Orange juice sauce on a bed of fresh lettuce and slices of cucumber on the side-the ribs were meaty and flavorful.

Square deep fried Toufu-silky soft inside, with toppings of Japanese Crab sticks and sliced smooth Angled Loofah in superior stock gravy-sinfully good.

Steamed Red Tilapia fish- their signature dish-in lovely sweet bean paste/chillies/garlic/ginger flavorsome sauce-a delight to the palate and was done just right- fresh, sweet, delicate and meaty.

Stir fried Choy Sam with cloves of garlic-was sweet, plump and crunchy.

Nourishing White Radish soup was complimentary.
