Momma Chicken Rice @ Ampang New Village.

There are many chicken rice stalls in the Ampang area and the winner of the best chicken rice in Malaysia is also found in Ampang New Village.

Though Momma chicken rice is not that famous.

To me they are a hidden gem-located at a row of old shop houses at the end line of the Ampang LRT station car park.

The BBQ pork is their main draw-lovely, not overly sweet thick 3 layered pork belly with a melt in the mouth sensation.

They also served roast chicken, roast pork, poached farm chicken and free range chicken by reservation.

Side dishes of blanched beansprout and other vegetables are also available.

Parking is OK.

Roast Chicken seated on a bed of sliced green cucumber and light soy (a bit salty) and garnished with spring onion-tender meat with a crisp skin-Rm10/
BBQ pork belly-melt in the mouth-5 Stars-Rm8/
Blanched Beansprout-refreshing and crunchy-Rm4/
Red Chillies dip-would like it more if it was more spicy.

Chen Hanwei @ Restoran Onn Kee (Tauge Ayam) Ipoh.

 Guest Post by Michelle.

Restoran Onn Kee (Tauge Ayam) Ipoh is a landmark chicken rice shop in Ipoh city, Perak.
It was the second day of the CNY festival and business was brisk and chaotic with a riot of hungry people waiting to be served and seated.

Next door neighbor Restoran Tauge Ayam Lou Wong was packed to the brim with tables spilling out into the sidewalk.

After shopping for our Valentine Day's gifts, we headed there for lunch and as usual parking was horrible !

While we were enjoying the meal, Samantha spotted that Singaporean popular male actor Chen Hanwei and his family were seated at a table next to us.
She was like wah ! so lucky.

After the meal, we approached him for a group photo and we were so happy when he obliged.

On the way to Ipoh city, Perak (beautiful limestone hill formation)
Busy but with full concentration-chopping up the poached chicken.
One whole poached chicken-nicely chopped-garnished with red chillies and spring onion in a superior sweet soy sauce/sesame oil-tender but firm chicken meat-Rm40/
Blanched Beansprouts-fresh, crunchy and sweet.
Bouncy meat balls and springy fish balls.
Smooth flat white rice noodle in a tasty chicken broth.
Thumbs up of approval for a good meal.

Singapore Laksa.

Everyone in the family requested for this Peranakan dish called Singapore Laksa from my mother and my wife as it has been quite sometime since we last savored it.

The dish is simple but tedious to make.

The prawn stock soup gravy for the laksa is the most essential as it's what make the dish!

Boiled shrimps and cut into half.

Homemade Fish paste-steamed and cut into matchstick sizes.

Blanched Beansprout-colander and leave aside.

Skinned the cucumber and cut into matchsticks sizes.

Daun Kesum (Lat lui / Laksa leaves/Polygonum) chopped it up coarsely.

Yellow noodle.

Thick White rice flour vermicelli.

Filled up a bowl with the noodle of your choice and add in the various ingredients.

Laksa soup gravy-filled with coconut milk, blended dried red chillies, candlenut, turmeric, shrimp paste, shallot. garlic, lengkuas (galangkal)-red, rich, creamy, spicy and cholesterol laden.

Poured the thick Laksa soup gravy over it and it's ready to be serve-Heavenly!.
