Restoran BBQ Soon Hing @ Pusat Bandar Puchong.

Restoran BBQ Soon Hing have been in this wanton noodle
and BBQ meat business for quite a number of years, now.

Hesitated to try them out because of it been run by foreigners.

I was skeptical until my car foreman reassured me of it's food.

It is located along the same row with Tesco- a few doors away from
Maybank and fronting LRT pillars and LDP highway.

Orders were done with a PDA and service was efficient.

Pay when food is served.

As it was a public holiday-parking is abundant.

We had dry wanton mee (not as springy as I like it to be but OK )
with 1: BBQ ribs ( well marinated, smokey flavor-a bit charred and
sweet) 2:braised Chicken feet (just right with not too much 5 Spices
powder and cinnamon) with soft, smooth earthy mushroom 3: BBQ
pork (tender and juicy)/duck (flavorful and meaty).

The Original Char Siu Chai is back !

The Original Char Siu Chai is back at Restoran Simon's Delight in Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya.

This guy is a like a traveling vagabond-opening and closing his char siu wantan noodle business with different partners all over PJ for the past decades.

At this present place-he sells pork noodles, too.

Real good pork noodles with pig's innards like liver and 3 layers stuffed pig's intestine, choy sam, minced pork,  sliced lean pork in a tasty pig's bone/secret ingredients soup-crunchy pig's uterus is available on request or pre-order !

We also ordered a plate of his special "melt in the mouth" caramelized Char Siu which was excellently tender and meaty but a bit too sweet for my liking.

His side-show of flipping the wantan noodle in the air ( to rid it of it's moisture) was a delight to watch.

Lovers of pork noodle will have a better choice- either him or the neighboring famous pork noodle stall in New Seaview Restoran.

Parking is ample.

Top: Pork noodles-one of the best around PJ.  Middle: Stuffed 3 layers of pork intestines-very crunchy. Bottom: Sang cheong (uterus)-thickly sliced, crunchy with an "explosive" texture in the mouth with every bite !

Bird's eye chillies with light soy sauce to go with the pork noodles.

Char Siu (BBQ Pork)- fragrant, well caramelized, melt in the mouth sensation-a bit too sweet to my liking.

Momma Chicken Rice @ Ampang New Village.

There are many chicken rice stalls in the Ampang area and the winner of the best chicken rice in Malaysia is also found in Ampang New Village.

Though Momma chicken rice is not that famous.

To me they are a hidden gem-located at a row of old shop houses at the end line of the Ampang LRT station car park.

The BBQ pork is their main draw-lovely, not overly sweet thick 3 layered pork belly with a melt in the mouth sensation.

They also served roast chicken, roast pork, poached farm chicken and free range chicken by reservation.

Side dishes of blanched beansprout and other vegetables are also available.

Parking is OK.

Roast Chicken seated on a bed of sliced green cucumber and light soy (a bit salty) and garnished with spring onion-tender meat with a crisp skin-Rm10/
BBQ pork belly-melt in the mouth-5 Stars-Rm8/
Blanched Beansprout-refreshing and crunchy-Rm4/
Red Chillies dip-would like it more if it was more spicy.

Happy Flippy Wantan Mee @ Glenmarie.

From selling wantan mee at Intan (Section 17)---- Chai Siew Chai (Paramount Garden)----Happy Flippy Wantan Mee (Glenmarie)-I considered the chef to be a wandering wantan mee man.

The plus point about him is his friendliness.

He makes his own noodles and with a shop named Happy Flippy Wantan Mee -he sure  likes to flip his springy noodles.

Located one street down from the famous Meng Kee Char Siew and next door to Pao Xiang BKT-the competition will be real tough for him !

Parking is bearable.

Chunky pieces of roast pork belly with crispy crackling skin-juicy with tinge of 5 spices powder-Rm12/
BBQ pork-well caramelized - the proportion of  fat:lean was not balanced (he should find a better butcher)-wish it was thicker-normally it was my fave-Rm12/
Springy plain house made noodle-not too wet or oily served with blanched Choy Sam-best !- Rm3/
Siew Kow-pork dumpling - firmly wrapped with minced pork/black fungus/ carrot and smooth wantan skin-would like it better with shrimps and chopped spring onion in it-Rm5/(5 pieces)
Wan tan - pork dumpling with traces of flounder fish-Rm2.50/ (5 pieces)

RESTORAN UNCLE MENG.

Today, I had my own lunch because my makan buddies were busy with their work schedule.

Restoran Uncle Meng located a stone throwaway from my office in Taman Shamelin Perkasa, Cheras was a good choice.

I went there for a quick and simple meal of roast chicken/char siew (BBQ pork) rice.

The stall cum owner is the younger brother of the famous Meng Kee's char siew/chicken rice shop off Jalan Tengkat Tong Sin in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.

Uncle Meng's version is on par and just tasty as his brother's !

Roast chicken drumstick and Char siew (BBQ pork)-chicken meat was tender with a crispy skin while the Char siew was well marinated, caramelized and honey flavored.

Garlic chillies sauce.

Water cress soup-double boiled and tasty-complimentary.

Total bill:Rm6/
Location: Jalan 6/91, (behind ESSO station)

LOR MAI FUN (GLUTINOUS RICE)-STALL NO:42 KAMPAR MORNING FOOD COURT.

Besides the usual Char Kway Teow and the Curry Chee Cheong Fun for breakfast at the morning Foodcourt in Kampar, I also like the the cute and small portioned savory Lor Mai Fun (Glutinous rice) from Stall No:42 at only Rm1.70/plate.

Hawker stalls outside the Food court selling all kinds of takeaway food (on the right is my wife who seems to be giving me some signal, lol !).

Stall No:42-small and compact-specialty is Lor Mai Fun (Glutinous rice).

This simple and well flavored Lor Mai Fun (Glutinous rice) was not too sticky, served with a large spoonful of fragrant Curry gravy, slices of red colored Char Siew (BBQ pork), toasted crispy Peanuts and chopped fresh delicate Spring onion-a simple and hearty meal to break the morning hunger-Rm1.70/

KEDAI KOPI BAN KEE-CHICKEN RICE AND THE ART OF FILLETING AND COOKING EEL.

Kedai Kopi Ban Kee is a spacious coffee shop with a Wan Ton Mee stall (in the morning) and a Tai Chow (till night).
It is located near the traffic light junction off Jalan Timur and Jalan Pahang in Tapah town, Perak.
The Tai Chow is run by a husband and wife team with the help of a server.

Their specialty are local Chinese cuisine with wild Frog, Eel and Haruan (Snakehead fish) as their bestsellers.

I had my lunch of a plate of chicken rice and a rare opportunity to watch the stall owner-Lor Chor filleted an Eel (Belut) and cooked it, too!

Front view of the shop.

BBQ chicken, Char Siew and roast Pork-all in a row.

Chicken rice-breast area-with a glossy skin, tender and meaty with chopped Cucumber and tasty sauce-Rm3/

Eel (Belut)-Padi field's variety-chop off the head and scald it with hot water for a few seconds then clean off the sticky scum from it's body.

Fillet it with a sharp knife.

Slice it with a slant and into bite size.

The stall owner Lor Chor stir fried the sliced Eel with tender loving care.

Stir fry eel with garlic, soy sauce and Shao Hsing Chinese wine-fresh, tender and springy-perfect with rice.

JUN KEE RESTAURANT (CHERAS) SDN BHD.

Saturday lunchtime with my buddies, we went to Restoran Jun Kee in Taman Midah, Cheras, a typical neighbor restaurant with two shop lots back to back.

The place was clean and compact with floor to ceiling tiling and a glass panel enclosure for BBQ chicken, Char Siew and roast Pork and Duck.

As the restaurant have two sections, all their staff were equipped with walkie-talkie for easy communication.

The shop front.

Roast Duck (1/4) plus Char Siew (BBQ pork) -the Duck looks dry but the meat was moist and tender with a distinct flavor with each bite-the Char Siew (BBQ Pork) was average-Rm20/

The Dip for the Duck-thick brown sauce.

Sweet and Sour Garouper fish-fresh, lightly battered-bathed in a Ketchup/Vinegar sauce with a mixture of cubed Pineapple, Cucumber, Onion and Chillies-tantalizing-Rm30/

WAN TON MEE-HUNG KEE

Wan ton mee is a Cantonese noodle dish. The art of cooking the noodle is the most crucial process in order to get a springy noodle. I had my morning breakfast at Kedai Makanan Mee Hung Kee at Taman Shamelin, Cheras. Located just opposite the main entrance of the Pudu Ulu Park. This park is a recreation place for people to jog, walk or kick a ball around the spacious open field. The shops around this area are mostly offices, banks and coffee shops. This restaurant is a branch of the famous Hung Kee in Jalan Loke Yew, Kuala Lumpur. I ordered the dry version with slices of BBQ pork, shred chicken meat, choy sam and six pieces of wan ton.

The portion was generous-BBQ pork was lean and honeyed flavored-chicken was tender-noodle was springy

Wan ton was filled with minced pork and traces of sole fish flavor.

RESTAURANT GOOD FRIENDS-GENTING HIGHLANDS

Last Saturday,we were invited to attend a 8 course dinner plus free hotel accommodation in Genting Highland, Pahang. the event was organized by the Rice Wholesaler's Association of Malaysia, and was held at the Genting International Convention Centre. The last time we went to Genting was a year ago, so this was a good trip to rest and rejuvenate. We left our house at 8 a.m. and have a light dim sum breakfast at Restoran Tuck Kee at Kepong Maluri before cruising on the MRR2 to the resort. The drive up was a breeze except for the last lap from the Chinese temple towards the resort which was full of steep road gradient. Upon arriving and parking the car in the hotel basement's car park, our top agenda was to have a fling at the casino.

Heading to the Highland Resort's casino through a myriads of interconnecting stair escalators from the the indoor theme park.

We stayed in this hotel-The First World Hotel and Plaza-the room was a bit crammed-no complaint since it's on the house.

We went out for some fresh mountain air after all the stuffy and smoke filled and unhealthy air in the casino- a view of the outdoor theme park.

A replica of the city's twin towers in the indoor theme park.

A preview of DreamZ magic show dancers-for viewing go to youtube.com-Dreamz preview 1.

After all the walking and sightseeing, we had lunch at Restaurant Good Friends-a typical oriental restaurant serving dim sum and Chineses cuisine and snacks.

Chinese tea-rm1.50/pax-to go with our noodles-saved the best for tonight's dinner!

The array of roast chicken, pork and BBQ pork belly available-so tempting!

We ordered and shared a plate of dry noodle with 6 pieces of wan ton-was a big letdown the BBQ pork was cold with odd and bits pieces-rm16.10

A claypot of yee mee-came sizzling hot-filled with vegetables, crab sticks, deep fried flour crackers and a raw egg-was tasty-rm18.40.

After lunch, took a brisk walk around the indoor theme park, watching happy children having fun with their various rides, before checking into the room for some rest.
