Ribs King.

Monday dinner with family at Ribs King located along the main road of Taman Paramount.

A clean and fuss free air-cond restaurant with free Wi-fi, too !

As it's name implied it is a porky place to savor pork ribs right up the loin eye muscle.

Done in many styles like Marmite pork ribs, buttered pork ribs, black pepper..........etc

Their set dish are worth the money and comes with a bowl of the soup of the day.

We went for the ala carte menu, in order to try out their stir fried dishes which turn out to be OK except for the salty and bitter Nam Yee (fermented red bean curd) fried chicken and the low grade rice.

Parking is OK after 6 pm.

Supreme pork chop-well marinated-chunky and meaty with a light brown sauce-Rm12/

Fried sambal prawn with long bean and onion-spicy and crunchy long bean-Rm12/

Chicken Noodle@Paramount Garden.

This Chicken noodle stall is located at the side of a house behind the New Sea View Restaurant in Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya.

Opened about three months ago.

This chicken noodle stall and the one in Section 17 walk up flats in Block A, both has the same mentor.

I prefer this one because they are more generous with the noodle (dry or soup) and ingredients.

Price wise they are the same.

Dry flat rice noodle and yellow noodle tossed in a light/dark soy/sesame sauce with shredded chicken and a piece of boiled chicken-Rm4.50/

Rice Vermicelli noodle in a tasty chicken stock soup with two pieces of sliced pork, two fish ball, shredded chicken and a piece of boiled chicken-Rm4.50/

Boiled free range chicken (kai mei)-garnished with spring onion and coriander leaves-smooth, fragrant and meaty-Rm6/

Bird's eye chillies in soy sauce and blended garlic/red chillies/vinegar sauce.

Kaki Bola XO Fishhead Noodles.

A noodle place for football fans?

Looks like the owner is a big football fans-with posters of football stars and teams pasted on the shop's walls.

Their signature dish are fish head noodles with some side dishes like fried wanton and dumplings.

I ordered a fish paste noodle and three pieces of deep fried dumplings for easy eating-just does not want to get a bone stuck in throat early in the morning !

Service was good and the place was clean and hygienic.

XO Fishpaste noodle-thick rice vermicelli-springy fishpaste-lots of red tomatoes-sliced kiam chai (salted vegetable) spinach and extras toppings of chopped spring onion / coriander leaves-tasty broth with some tanginess-good and affordable-Rm7.30/ with a side order of fishpaste/shrimps dumplings-hot and crispy-Rm4.50.
Spicy and tongue numbing green Bird's eye chillies for extra kick!!!

Restoran Kong Sai @ Paramount Garden.

The water rationing by Syabas was a good excuse to eat out.

Dinner at Restoran Kong Sai located in Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya was good choice.

A small no frills restaurant with air conditioning-eat in more comfort (what with the hot weather, nowadays ! )

Orders were quickly taken and service was prompt.

Parking is OK in the evening.

Black Vinegar Pork trotter-served in a clay pot with lots of sliced old ginger and a good balance of hooves and meat - black vinegar was not too choking-lots of collagen !.
Airy Tofu Puff-compactly stuffed with minced pork/chopped spring onion-meaty with each bite.
Poached free range 'bearded' chicken (1/2 portion)-well poached, fragrant with smooth muscular texture.
Dip for the chicken-chopped ginger/coriander leaves/sesame oil/garlic oil.
Stir fried lettuce with garlic-leafy and crunchy
Black Pepper Pig stomach soup with sliced canned button mushroom-too peppery and numbing.
Black chicken herbal soup served in a cut-up coconut-very nutritious and invigorating.

Restoran Sun Ban Lee.

Restoran Sun Ban Lee is a branch of the famous Restoran Ban Lee Bak Kut Teh off Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.

I am sure you would have noticed that a lot of the old school restaurants are going into cleaner, brighter and well located places to entice the younger diners.

Besides Bak Kut Teh (Pork rib Tea), other all time favorites like steamed Sam Wong Tan (custard 3 types of eggs), Chinese rice wine chicken, tofu, steamed fish head, Marmite chicken wings...etc are available, too!

The young owner was friendly and open to constructive criticism.

Prices are quite reasonable.

The smell of herbs wafted the air as we waited for our food to be serve.

Parking is OK in the night and on weekends.

Small bone is a piece of meat shaped like a chicken thigh served on a piping hot claypot with foo chok (beancurd sheets), fresh lettuce and Enoki mushroom-tender and soft meat with a not too overpowering herbal soup-I'd prefer it with more Sook Tei (radix rehmanniae)-Rm11/.

Dried Bak Kut Teh-served in a claypot-cooked with dried chillies, thinly sliced lady finger (okra), dried squid's tentacles-very fragrant with some spiciness-Rm22/

Claypot with innards like pig's intestine (better if  it were thicker) and chewy stomach and topped with fresh lettuce, foo chuk-Rm11/

Steamed Soong Yee Thau (big head grass carp) with blended ginger/salt and garnished with spring onion-just nicely cooked-fresh and smooth meat-watch out for those fork like bones around the neck area-Rm22/
Stir fried Kai Lan with Hum Yee (salted fish)-crunchy and leafy-a good combination-Rm10/

Practical and clean containers to store garlic, big red chillies and green bird's eye chillies.

Roast Duck@Loong Foong Seafood Restaurant

When the chef of the house is on holiday, the options are either takeaway or eat out.

I bought a whole roast duck @ Rm45 at the newly renovated Loong Foong Seafood Restaurant located in Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya.

The crispy roast duck was fresh out from the portable charcoal oven and when the guy chopped it up, the warm flowing natural juices from the duck was soooooo.. tempting.

I ate one of the juicy duck thigh on the spot.

Sweet bean sauce and vinegar red chillies to go with the well marinated, juicy and meaty roast duck with a missing piece of duck thigh-ha! ha!

RESTORAN PING WAH.

Restoran Ping Wah is a small eatery located in Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya that served good, simple home style Hainanese food.

The young owner Joe Hoo is a family friend of my Singaporean relatives.
Before taking over Restoran Ping Wah, Joe was running another restaurant named Oh La La in Kuchai Lama.

These dishes were Joe's selections for us.

Parking is ample.

Braised lean pork strips with thinly sliced potatoes-a tad too sweet- would have like it more if the potatoes are cut into wedges.

Deep fried Ma Yau (Threadfin) bathed in good grade Soy sauce and garnished with deep fried ginger was a delight-crispy and moist inside.

Braised Pig's tendons with pineapple, preserved Soy bean and spring onion-tangy taste and the tendon was crunchy.

Hainanese fried egg-his dad's recipe-the egg white are fried and stirred until it was fluffy-topped it with raw egg yolk and finely chopped Chai Poh (preserved Radish)-outstanding!

Deep fried Squid rings-lightly batter, chewy but was not crunchy.

Stir fried young sweet potato shoots-tender and smooth.

Another of Joe's father recipe-sambal salted fish-way too saltish but goes well with rice.

WAN TAN MEE

Wan Tan Mee is everybody's favorite noodle, you can have it at anytime of the day. The art of cooking the noodle is the most crucial part of preparing this simple and tasty dish. I have found one stall at Restoran Simon's Delight in Petaling Jaya, that does just that. Ah Lek, the stall owner was formerly from Restoran Intan in Section 17, this guy is quite a show off especially when he cooks the noodle-flipping and tossing it (watch the video clip). He even told me that his customers called him "Char Siew King". We ordered two plates of dry noodle with wan ton, two pieces of pork dumplings and his trademark Char Siew.

Char siew straight from the oven.

The Char Siew was what i expected-not too lean with the right amount of fats-tender, well marinated and caramelized with honey and malt sugar.

The Siew Kow was big with a generous amount of fillings like water chestnut, carrot, black fungus, prawn and minced pork.

The Wan Ton Mee was springy and tossed with a light soy sauce and lard and served with some blanched Choy Sam.

Watch how he flips the noodle from the hot pot to the cold pot and tossing it upwards to rid the noodles of water.

ROAST DUCK-LOONG FOONG SEAFOOD

This is our regular place to go whenever the the urge to eat roast duck comes. "Sunrise" roast duck is the second option. This family run and owned restaurant is located at the corner of Jalan 20/13 in Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya, and is always packed. During the Chinese New Year festival, reservations must be made. Their raw fish is good and very generous in portions and pricing too! Signature's dishes are roast duck, steamed fish and crabs. Today the three of us ordered roast duck, sweet and sour pork and Brussels sprout and we take away some portions for our kid.

Freshly roast duck from the oven- a lot of takeaway too.

Waiting to buy roast duck.

1/2 roast duck-meaty and aromatic with herbs and 5 spices powder-dipped in secret sauce and chillies-excellent.

Stir fry Brussels sprout-with garlic clove-green leafy and crunchy.

Sweet and sour pork-with chopped onion, tomatoes and capsicum-meaty and tasty with every bite.
